How We Met

It was October 2007 I was 18 and John was 19. We were both working at the Guess store. Although we worked together we had little time to get to know each other as we worked oposite schedules. We ended up in the same psychology class at our local college even though John said he would never sign up for a 7am class somehow he ended up in that early of a class with me. When are manager found out that we were in the same class she asked us why we never sat together in class, to that John replied whoever gets to class first will have to sit wherever the other one is sitting. The next day John came to class late and the seat next to me was taken but he grabbed a chair and made room for himself at my table even though there was plenty of room at all the empty tables in class. From then on we hung out more and more and became study partners. Till we finally went on our first date at the county fair. And on April 27, 2008 John asked me to be his girlfriend.

How He Asked

John planned for months a trip to Disneyland because it’s our favorite place and he always wanted to take me at Halloween time since that is my favorite holiday. He planned the whole trip all on his own down to every detail. Usually I’m the planner so this trip was already very special that he made such an effort to plan it. On October 28, 2016 we spent our first day in Disneyland and it was so much fun. The Halloween decorations were awesome and it was everything we hoped it would be. John’s coworker Suki and his wife ended up being in Disneyland at the exact same time as us. We ended up meeting with them for a short time and parted ways. But little did I know John was planning for them to meet back up with us much sooner then I imaged. As soon as they left us he asked me to go take a picture with him in front of the giant Mickey Pumpkin. I knew he knew I always wanted to take a picture there but I thought it was a little suspicious that he was determined to take it right at sunset. He asked me a couple times and we headed over there making our way down Main Street. I couldn’t help but to admire how beautiful the sky was and how full of people Main Street was. As we finally made it to the pumpkin John all of sudden had to use the restroom but he seemed to be acting very weird. I asked him if he wanted me to hold his backpack and he said no very quickly and had me sit on a bench to wait for him. I got very nervous wondering if he was up to something but didn’t want to get my hopes up so I made myself stay calm. When he returned he kept texting Suki and kept telling me he loved me and was so nervous. I also noticed that he kept patting his pocket to see if something was in there. I kept looking to see if I could see Suki around I thought maybe this was a plan of there’s to surprise me. As the half hour we were in line passed I saw Suki keep getting closer to us and trying to not look at us. When it was finally our turn to take our picture in front of the Mickey pumpkin Suki was right by the photographer. We took a couple normal pictures then I felt John pull away from me and get on one knee. I was so nervous and excited. Although I felt something was coming I couldn’t believe it really happened. We were so lucky to have the Disney photographer take pictures and Suki film it. And the night didn’t end there. We were treated like royalty by Disney. We were escorted to the front of the line of The Indiana Jones ride. We were able to sit in the front row of the VIP seating for the fireworks. Every cast member congratulated us and wanted to hear our story. I’ve always loved Disneyland but this was the trip of our lives. I felt like a true princess. My fiancé also managed to get tickets for Mickey’s not so spooky Halloween party the next day which was a perfect ending to our time at Disney.
