Brittany and Grant

How We Met

Although I don’t believe in love at first sight, I do believe in God, and fate. My fiancé and I share a love story that is a little different, yet so special to us. I decided for college that it was best for me to stay close to home, so I attended a local college, Auburn University of Montgomery, in Montgomery, AL.

Grant, my fiancé, was set on attending a college out of town, but right before it was time to move off to college, he decided that he was going to stay close to home as well. Grant and I had both grown up close to each other, and we even had similar friends; however, we had never met each other. During our first couple of months, we both joined a sorority and fraternity on campus.

We encountered each other a few times at different sorority and fraternity functions, but it wasn’t until multiple encounters that we finally were able to sit down and talk to one another. We immediately hit it off. Not long after this conversation, Grant got my number, we went on a few dates, and the rest is history after that conversation that changed our lives in April of 2014. I fell in love with him so quickly.

Grant is such a gentleman, with the most tender heart. There is not a day that goes by, where I don’t laugh constantly. In the three years that we have been together, I have never woken up without having a “good morning” text on my phone. He loves every little part of me, even the things I hate about myself. I do not know what compelled Grant to decide to stay home and attend college, but I do believe that it was so we would be brought together; so, for that I am forever grateful.

How He Asked

I woke up on March 18th, 2017, just as I would on any Saturday. As I was getting ready to sit down and eat my breakfast, three of my best friends, Presley, Kaitlyn, and Kirsten, walked in the door. Kaitlyn was carrying a single white rose and an envelope. In the envelope was a sweet note from Grant and $20, and it read, “Today is going to be a big day! You have a lot to do before I see you though! The girls are here to take you to breakfast. Love you, Grant.” So after I wiped up my tears, I jumped in the car with my girls, and we were off!

My friends wouldn’t tell me anything but just to “sit back and relax.” Our first stop was Panera for breakfast, which is probably one of my favorite places to go. When we pulled up, my family was waiting there to join us for breakfast. Once I finished my breakfast, Kirsten handed me another envelope. This envelope had $60 in it, and read: “Hope you’re enjoying breakfast! Your next stop is to get your nails done! Love you, Grant.” So of course, my girls and I were off to the next stop: manicures and pedicures.

At this point, I was thinking this day wouldn’t get any better, but I was definitely wrong. After I finished getting my nails done, Presley handed me the next envelope. This envelope contained $100 and read: ” Now you have to get something nice to wear! Anything you pick our is going to look amazing, so don’t try on the whole store! Love you, Grant.” During our time shopping, a few more of my friends joined us! After finding the perfect outfit, my friends and I went to my Aunt’s house for lunch, where I found my next surprise.

Grant had put together a basket full of mimosas, strawberries, and ring cookies for my friends and me. The envelope in the basket stated, ” Ok baby, now it’s time to relax and have some fun with the girls. Someone special will be here to pick you up at 3:30. Can’t wait to see you! Love you, Grant.” My girls and I enjoyed our lunch, got ready, and at 3:30 the doorbell rang. I opened the door to find my sweet, younger brother holding flowers. He waited for me to finish getting ready, and then drove me to the church, where Grant was waiting for me.

When we arrived, the walkway was lined with candles, and Grant was waiting at the end. He sat me down in a chair, and we just talked about the wonderful day he planned for me. At the end of our conversation, he got down on one knee with the most beautiful ring and asked me to marry him. Our family and friends were there to celebrate with us afterwards! It was the most perfect day Saying “yes” to Grant was by far the easiest thing I have ever done.

I could not imagine living a day without his love. Everyone deserves to love and be loved by someone as amazing as him. I am so thankful that God brought the two of us together, and I cannot wait to build a life with him. We are thrilled for this new journey we are beginning, and we are excited to see what the future holds for us!
