Brittanie and Scott
How We Met
We both attended University of Regina, and lived in residence. My first night in res, I went to a party at his place. He introduced himself to me and offered me a drink. Throughout the night, I couldn’t remember his name for more than 5 minutes. Eventually, he wouldn’t give me anything else to drink until I remembered his full name, middle name included. Nothing happened between us that night, other than me having his full name stuck in my head. I would see him around res or the university and call him by his full name. On Halloween, he had asked me come hang out with him and his friends at his place. I did, and at the end of the night he walked me back to my room and kissed me. He asked me if it was okay that he had kissed me, and I said yes, but it shouldn’t happen again. Between November – February, he was always hanging around my apartment. We would watch Netflix, cuddle, and talk but I refused to date. Slowly, he changed my mind. He would do the sweetest things for me.
I was totally addicted to Pinterest back then, and I would lie in bed pinning until I fell asleep. My arms often got tired from holding my phone above my head, one time in particular, Scott took my phone, held it above my face, and continued to scroll for me to give my arms a rest. He was starting to get my attention. His friends constantly told me how sweet he was and that I should give him a chance. One day, he brought me a hand-drawn bible verse that I had pinned weeks ago. I didn’t even know he could draw, let alone that he would remember something so small that I had mentioned I liked. That was it, I knew he was something special and I agreed to go out with him. On our first date, he picked me up in his boat of a car, pulled right up to the residence doors, and opened the door for me. At the restaurant, he handed me the wine menu and told me to order us anything that I liked. He was a perfect gentlemen. After that I was hooked and we dated for 4 years and 2 months before he proposed.
How He Asked
We currently live in two different cities, 4 hours apart. He’s a teacher so had a week off for Easter and came to stay with me. I had a busy week, so we set aside Tuesday to be our night to spend together. We weren’t sure what we were going to do, so that day while I went to work, I suggested he make a plan for the evening, little did I know that he already had a plan. He took me back to the restaurant where we had out first date, followed by a walk in the park where we also had gone on our first date. We then walked over to a lookout point, overlooking the lake and the University where we had met, had our first kiss, where he picked me up for our first date, and where we fell in love.
He began reminiscing on our time together and all we had experienced there together, while hugging me to shelter me from the cold. Meanwhile, our friend came out from the bushes and began snapping pictures. Scott told me about the butterflies he had while picking out the ring, picking the ring up, scouting out the proposal location, and asking my dad and step dad for their blessing.
I honestly don’t remember what else he said, and I had so many tears in my eyes I couldn’t even see what the ring looked like. I tearfully said yes and he slipped the ring on my finger.
