How We Met

We met three years ago while we were both at school. I was the ‘cute’ new girl in the Mining Engineering department at the University of Utah and one of our mutual friends told us about each other. At the time, I was involved with another person and it took me a year and a half to realize that I wanted to date my now fiancé. We reconnected after summer break of 2016 and got to talking in class. He offered to make me dinner one night and I said yes and we had the best chicken tortilla soup ( I was sick). We took about a month to become official but once we did, it was all uphill from there. He has made me countless dinners, taken me on countless dates and we have had so much fun together. I can’t wait for the future.

How He Asked

While we were in Kansas visiting his grandparents over our schools fall break we decided to go on a walk in the forrest and farm lands surrounding their house. As we were walking around Garrett kept telling me how much he loved me and wanted to be with me forever so I instantly thought, “This is it!!”. We got to this opening and he grabbed both of my hands and started to get down on one knee. After he realized how happy I was he stopped and stood back up and started apologizing because he was just kidding. Throughout the rest of the day I locked him out of the bathroom and bedroom while I was getting ready and did not talk to him. I was so frustrated but I had to put on a face because we were at his grandparents house and we were supposed to be having fun. His grandparents had planned to take us out to dinner that night and they wanted us to get dressed up and have a couple pictures taken with them. They’re grandparents, so of course they want photos and memories, little did I know what was actually going to happen. His grandma called me over to help with her camera after we had taken a couple pictures so I gladly went over to assist. All of a sudden, I felt nervous so I turned around and Garrett was down on one knee. I started to freak out because earlier in the day I had told him that the next time he is down on one knee it better be the actual thing. He said that sweetest things and called his grandpa over (he had the ring in his pocket the whole time!) and then asked me to marry him. It was very memorable and I am so glad we got to do it and involve his grandparents.
