Brianna and Dillan
How We Met
Dillan and I have known each other for years, but we didn’t actually become friends until high school. When I was a junior and he was a senior we were in the same friend group and we hit it off right away. He was always someone I could count on to make me laugh and make me feel special, but for some reason, I never saw him as anything more than a friend. However, one night we stayed up all night just getting to know each other better and I realized that the man I was meant to be with was right in front of me all along. He asked me to be his girlfriend on March 1, 2013, by writing “Be mine?” on my back windshield while I was in softball practice. I found his car afterward and wrote “Yes!” on his. We have been inseparable ever since. We’ve endured a lot during our five years together, but I couldn’t imagine doing any of those five years with anyone else.
How He Asked
Dillan knew that there were three things I expected out of a marriage proposal, (1) for him to ask my dad for his blessing (2), someone, to capture the moment, and (3) for my nails to be painted/done. Well, he was definitely listening when I said all of those things because this moment was everything I dreamed it would be. I was getting some senior portraits done in our hometown and he told me he wanted to come watch, which I thought was sort of odd.
We had already begun my session and I didn’t see Dillan anywhere so I assumed he was still on his way. My awesome photographer, Alex, had me walk down a pathway toward his camera as he snapped some photos of me, and I could hear footsteps behind me. Then he said “Now, turn around” and there was Dillan, getting down on one knee looking handsome as ever. He popped open a Zales box with a beautiful rose gold engagement ring and asked me to marry him. It took me a few seconds to realize what had just happened, and I instantly broke down in tears and finally said “Yes!”
Anyone who knows us knows that we’ve waited what seems like forever for this moment. We’ve spent a lot of our time apart because of things in our individual lives (college, work, etc.), but during that time we’ve been able to grow as individuals so that we can begin growing as one. Finally getting to marry my best friend is a dream come true!
