Brenda and Jamie
How We Met
I walked into my high school Geometry class, a nervous Freshman looking for a familiar face. I was relieved to find that our seats were assigned, so I wouldn’t have to sheepishly search for a new friend. I sat down next to Jamie, and was immediately put at ease by his bright eyes and friendly smile. There was something about him that intrigued me, and over the course of the year we become not just assigned-seat buddies, but friends. That friendship led to even more, and three years later, he brought my to my Senior prom. Now, ten years after, we are planning our wedding, and I couldn’t be more happy that I sat down next to him all those years ago.
How He Asked
All through our ten years of dating, Jamie and I have shared a love for adventure, and have enjoyed so many memories as a result of our travels. This past August, we set out on our biggest adventure yet – a 250 mile hike through the Sierra Nevadas on the famed John Muir Trail. After over a year of planning and dreaming about this trip of a lifetime, we found ourselves in Yosemite National Park. We summitted Yosemite’s iconic Half Dome just in time for sunset, and were blown away by the stunning views of the valley below.
I was already so overcome with emotion, seeing such beautiful sights and finally realizing our dreams of completing this journey together. Just when I thought my breath couldn’t be taken away any more, Jamie led me to a gorgeous overlook and, after a decade of love and adventure together, asked me to be his wife.
We spent the rest of the month together enjoying our “engagement honeymoon” in some of the most amazing scenery in the world, making memories neither of us will ever forget. The trail, with its literal and figurative peaks and valleys, was a perfect metaphor for our future life as a married couple, and as we finished the trek on top of Mount Whitney – the highest peak in the contiguous U.S. – I knew that we could make it through anything together. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect person to spend the rest of my life with, knowing that marriage will be our biggest – and best – adventure of all.
