Breanna and David
How We Met
My (now) husband and I met my senior year of high school, when my best friend took me swing dancing for the first time. It was a really fun night, and at the very end I ended up meeting my husband David. When we first met, I really didn’t like him very much. He was dressed like an old man, and had his hair completely slicked back with a Hawaiian shirt on. At the time, I was deep in my goth phase, and he was the absolute opposite of my type. One of the first things he told me was that he was going to steal me away from my boyfriend, and I just laughed at him! My friend and I continued going back each week, and every time David was there he would ask me to dance. It got to the point where my friend and I jokingly made up a hand signal for him to rescue me. After a month and a half or so, I got to know David more and I really started falling for him. My previous relationship had been on the rocks for a while, and so I broke it off to test the waters with David.
How He Asked
We were together for a few months before we moved in with each other, and shortly after we took a trip to Yosemite to go camping with his family for a week, and then to his brothers wedding in Tahoe. One day, we took a hike to a beautiful, tall waterfall and David climbed up it. He kept insisting I go up, but I’m not a fan of heights so I stayed down below. As he was trying to get down from the waterfall, he almost slipped off and fell down the falls. It absolutely scared the daylights out of me, and everyone around the falls screamed. I told him that there was no way he was going up a waterfall after that!
Later in the day we decided to go to a smaller waterfall, Rainbow Falls, that was close to our campsite for the evening I wasn’t feeling well that day, so I went in pajamas with the intention of reading a book and relaxing while my husband and his sister went cliff diving. Shortly after arriving, he, his sister and brother in law were very adamant about us going to the top of the waterfall, and after a lot of convincing me, I went up with them. When we got to the top, they started crossing into waist deep water and I decided I didn’t want to keep going and started to turn back to go down. David grabbed my hand, and I turned around and saw him getting down on his knee.. because of him almost falling off the falls earlier, I thought he was falling again and tried to pick him up! Finally he pulled out the ring and all I could say was, “Are you serious!” A million times until he finally put the ring on my finger! Later I ended up finding out that the first waterfall he almost fell off of was the place he wanted to propose at, but my stubbornness got the best of him and the entire family worked together to get a new place! Now we’ve been together for 6 years, married for three and never been happier!
