Blake and Charles
How We Met
I first met Charles in accounting class at the College of Charleston during our junior year. Charles sat next to me on the first day of class and one look into his brown eyes and I was smitten. I looked forward to going to class everyday so I could sit next to him. He asked me to meet him at the library to study for an upcoming test. Although the class material was completely over my head I enjoyed every minute of spending time with him and getting to know him better. It only took a few dates for us to both realize that what we had was something special. We went to the Beaufort Water Festival with a bunch of friends one summer and after a fun day on the water he asked me to be his girlfriend. I have never been so sure of something in my whole life, and the rest is history! We tried to see each other whenever possible in between school, studying and other commitments as we couldn’t get enough of each others company. After five years of dating, our love grew stronger to the point where we had a solid friendship and foundation for marriage.
How He Asked
The proposal took place at The Biltmore in North Carolina during a weekend getaway. It was Christmas time, so the Hotel was decked out in beautiful lights, wreaths, gingerbread houses, and over the top Christmas trees. The holidays have always been a special time for us that we cherish and we never miss a chance to decorate our Christmas tree at home together. While at dinner, Charles was quiet and non responsive which is not his usual conversational self. I could tell that he had something on his mind. Before the entrée was served he asked if I wanted to go look at the grand Christmas tree. When we got up to the lobby he led me by the hand to the tree and then got down on one knee and said the most beautiful words before asking for my hand in marriage. After containing my excitement, I said yes! We hugged, cried (happy tears), laughed, and had the most perfect evening. My best friend is going to be my husband and I couldn’t be happier!
