Bethany and Jordan
How we met: Bethany and Jordan both attended college at Binghamton University in Upstate New York. Although they lived on the same floor in the same dorm during Bethany’s freshman year (Jordan’s sophomore year), they wouldn’t meet for another two years when Bethany coincidentally was brought to a party at Jordan’s house by a mutual friend. Although they hit it off immediately, bonding over tequila shots at their favorite college bar, neither expected anything serious because Jordan was only weeks away from graduating and moving out of Binghamton.
After seeing each other a couple times over the summer, Jordan made a trip back to Binghamton for Labor Day weekend. He asked Bethany on a date that Saturday night, but extenuating circumstances caused them to delay their first date until his next visit. A year later, after Bethany graduated, she started attending law school at Seton Hall – which was much closer to where Jordan was living. Two years after that, they moved in together in New York City and adopted a cat named Archie.
How he asked: After moving in together in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, Bethany and Jordan frequently tried new restaurants, explored the sites in New York City and took walks on Chelsea Piers – which overlooks the Statue of Liberty and the New Jersey shoreline.
On the Friday of Labor Day weekend – four years after Jordan first asked Bethany on a date – he told her that he had a surprise planned for dinner. When they started walking toward Chelsea Piers, Bethany assumed the surprise was that they were going to a restaurant that they had been meaning to try. But instead, Jordan had other plans. He took Bethany to the edge of the pier (where their good friend, Isabel, was waiting in hiding to photograph the occasion), told her how much he loved her and asked her to marry him. Of course, she said yes!
