How We Met
How we met was simple, we dated in high school when I was 15 and he was 16 for about a year and a half. My cousin introduced us because he thought we would be a good fit for each other and we were! It was wonderful for a year and a half and then we broke up and didn’t speak for 8+ years before finding each other again and pretty much picking up right where we left off, in love.
How He Asked
It was the day before my birthday and we had been together for almost a year but after everything that we had been through (and not been through) in our lives it seemed like much longer.
I woke up that morning feeling sick but we had a movie date planned for that night and I had to work before it so I knew I had to suck it up and deal with it.
I went to work and just felt terrible and I kept texting him telling him I wasn’t sure going to the movies was in the stars for us that night… but he kept insisting we go.
I thought well, maybe he just really wants to go see 21 Jumpstreet THAT bad and I can’t say no, it was his choice!
So I got home from work still debating if the movies were going to happen, he kept insisting, so I got ready and we left.
We pulled up to the movies and I got out of the car and started walking towards the movies as he’s fumbling with something in the car so I stop to wait. He finally gets out and just stands there looking at me.
“What are you doing?” I say to him.
He starts to get down on one knee.
“OH MY GOD!!!!!” I say as I jump back and exclaim “Why at the movies?!”
Give me credit, I needed to know.
He says to me “We had our first date at the movies 8 years ago when we were in school and I want our first date as fiance’s to be at the same place. Will you marry me?”
I was shocked, I was happy… oh my gosh how amazing!
“YES!” I yelled and jumped on him to hug the life out of him.
I was very proud of myself that I didn’t cry here.. I always thought I would but I think I was just so filled with so many different emotions that I wasn’t sure which one to go with.
He gets up and we start to walk into the movies and I realized I had no time to tell anyone the news!
“You would take me somewhere where I have to wait at least two hours before telling anyone!” I say, laughing.
He laughed and smiled and we kept on walking.
I was engaged to my best friend, the man I planned on marrying when I was 15 but the 8+ year split made me think that was never going to happen, but fate had other plans.
It was simple yet meaningful and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
I just loved it.
Now we’ve been married for 3 years and we’re as happy as we can be!
You never know what life has in store for you but it’s sure worth the wait!
