Ashley and Spencer
How We Met
Spencer and I met at the homecoming football game our freshman year of high school when a mutual friend introduced us. We had a class together but hasn’t talked since we went to different middle schools, but once we met we were inseparable. Spencer asked me to be his girlfriend on 11/5/08. I said yes, unable to imagine what would be in our future. Most high school relationships seem to be childish and temporary but we both looking for something more. He was my first (and only) boyfriend and I was his first (and only) girlfriend, we had our first kisses shortly after and said “I love you” on October 10, 2009. We’ve gone through drivers ed, high school, college, family vacations, sickness, and the ups and downs of life together. It’s hard to explain how I feel, he’s my best friend. We adopted a rescue puppy, Duke, our Junior year of college and our “family” grew. My senior year of college I had a relapse into OCD/anxiety from my childhood, it was hard but Spencer was by my side telling me he loved me when I didn’t even love myself. Thankfully I’m doing much better now and we are both working full time trying to start our future. The last nine years of loving each other haven’t been easy but they have been worth it. I knew for a long time I wanted to marry Spencer, and now my dream gets to become a reality.
How He Asked
On September 29th, 2017 Spencer took me out to dinner because he “had the night off”. Instead of going home after he surprised me and took me back to the football field where we first met nine years ago. There was a football game going on so we went into watch a bit. I was shocked when the announcer called us down to the sidelines and out onto the track after the first quarter. He explained Spencer and I met three nine years ago and he wanted to ask me a question. Spencer) got down on one knee and asked me to marry him in front of everyone!
I said YES!!! Then our family and friends came down from the stands to congratulate us. I was blown away by the effort he put into asking me (and I still am). I know we were designed to be one. I am so thankful and feel so blessed, I can’t wait to be Mrs. Johnson!
