How We Met

Our journey started in 2010 when we were freshmen at the University of Georgia. A few weeks before the end of the year, our friend Billy invited us to a game of ultimate frisbee. Though Rad and I both knew Billy well, the two of us had never met. Teams were divided and the game began. At some point, Rad (who was on the other team) fell and scraped himself up pretty bad. That’s the moment he really caught my attention. I kindly decided to sit out with him so teams would stay even and we got to talking. The two of us hit it off pretty well. A week or so later, we went on our first date at the 24-hour campus dining hall. Talking to Rad was so easy. What felt like minutes turned out to be hours. Fast forward a couple of weeks and we were packing up to go home for the summer. Our time together had been short but we knew we had something special. So on May 3rd, 2010 we decided to make it official. Fortunately, we grew up about 15 miles from each other so seeing each other wasn’t too much of an issue. I met Rad’s family pretty soon after that and immediately understood how he became such an incredible man. Our first dog and few more years of college and we were ready to graduate. The day after graduation, I was offered a job in Jacksonville, FL. Rad encouraged me to accept even though he knew he’d likely be staying in Atlanta for a while. And he did. We did long distance for about a year. We survived on phone calls and just a handful of visits. When Rad visited, we would often go to Guana Reserve. It’s a little slice of heaven. No homes, no tall buildings, just you and nature. It became our place to escape. Rad eventually joined me in 2014.

How He Asked

A few days after our 7 year anniversary, we decided to go for a walk with our dogs. We got to a good turning point and I stopped to sit on a piece of driftwood and look out at the ocean before we headed back. Rad walked off towards the dunes. I didn’t think anything of it at first. Then from behind me I hear “Wouldn’t you love to do this forever?” Of course, I said yes. When he didn’t say anything I turned around, only to find him on a knee. He had the most beautiful ring I had EVER seen. He later told me the diamond in the center is the same diamond his dad used to propose to his mom. In just a few short months, I will marry the man of my dreams. I am so excited to see what the future holds.
