Ashley and Nathan
How We Met
Nathan and I were set up by a mutual friend. On the day we met, Nathan went to an SF Giants game and on his way home he stopped by our friend’s house, where I was hanging out. An important fact to note is that my family is full of diehard Oakland A’s fans, including myself, and we have been for generations. After learning that Nathan was a Giants fan I was a little hesitant to meet him. However, we hit it off great that night! The following day he messaged me on Facebook and a week after that we went on our first date. It’s now seven years later and we’re engaged!
How He Asked
We planned a trip to Victoria, BC to celebrate Nathan’s 30th birthday. Before we left, Nathan secretly met with my parents to ask them for my hand in marriage. They said yes of course and were surprisingly able to keep the big news to themselves until I revealed it later. When we got to Victoria, Nathan said he wanted to go to a nice steakhouse for his special birthday dinner. We got dressed up and Nathan ordered a taxi to drive us. I was running late (as usual) so when the cab arrived, Nathan told me he was going to run down and let the driver know we would be out in a few minutes. Little did I know he was actually informing the driver that where we were going was a secret from me. About 15 minutes later we pulled up to the gorgeous Government House of British Columbia. The House was surrounded by beautiful gardens, fountains and ponds. After admiring the scenery, the driver parked in front of the Victorian Rose Garden and told us the restaurant was just down the path. Nathan and I began walking through the garden and then we stopped in front of this arch that was covered in pink roses. He then turned to me and said, “Well, we’re not actually going to dinner here” and suddenly a photographer turned to us and started snapping photos!
Nathan continued with the sweetest words imaginable as a whirlwind of emotions consumed me. A few tears ran down my cheeks as Nathan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Right after the proposal we did a fun engagement shoot with the photographer that Nathan hired and then we met the sweetest elderly couple who made the moment even more special by inviting us to tea to celebrate. We eventually made it to the restaurant where our waitress greeted us with complimentary champagne and the live band dedicated a song to us. As soon as we left the restaurant there were fireworks going off over the harbor. It literally was a perfect day and one I’ll never forget.
