Ashley and Mike
How We Met
Mike and I met 9 years ago on my first day at a new job. I can remember exactly what he was wearing and the exact way he looked at me when he walked in that morning. From there we became great friends and we went on a couple of smaller dates. I couldn’t imagine that he was actually that into me, but I got my answer one February night when I invited him to go see a play with me. At the time I had zero ideas that the play was a romance and that he actually hated plays! But he went because he was hoping to ask me to be his girlfriend that night.
The rest is really history. If I thought we were good friends then, I was not prepared for him to become my everything today. We have endured so much in the last few years; from a death in the family to my struggles with graduate school, and to my father and I no longer have a relationship. Michael has been my rock through more than thick and thin. He is the first person that I reach out to when I’m happy or sad and he always knows what to say; even if that means saying nothing at all. I would not have made it to where I am today without him in my corner.
How He Asked
The night he proposed was as perfect as imperfect could be. I had had a really tough day at work dealing with a woman who had just lost her child to DCF and on my way home I was pulled over for a brake light out on my car. By the time that I got home, I was exhausted. But he had something else in mind. He had set up candles and our song playing in the background. When I saw him down on one knee I couldn’t help but cry.
It was the most beautiful, romantic, intimate way to ask me to marry him; especially after he told me that he had gotten my fathers permission. That night was everything that I could have hoped for and I love him, even more, today because of it.
I cannot wait to marry my better half and spend the rest of my life waking up beside him. I look forward to every part of our lives together, including the plays he attends just because I am the one who likes them.
