Ashley and Matthew

Ashley's Proposal in Lost Creek Vineyard

How We Met

Even though Matthew and I had mutual friends, our brothers had been teammates, and we attended the same elementary school. We did not meet until January 9th, 2011 when Matthew messaged me on Facebook! After many weeks of texting, we finally got together to attend Courtwarming dance together. I knew there was something special about him from the very beginning.

After high school, Matthew attended Missouri State University for a year until I joined him in 2013 when I graduated. We spent the next 3.5 years together in Springfield strengthening our relationship and being by eachothers side every step of the way. Matthew graduated from MSU in December 2016 and began working at Aspen Contracting. After I graduated in May 2017 and began graduate school 11 days after graduation, we moved into our first apartment on June 3rd, 2017!

How He Asked

On Labor Day weekend, Matthew and I traveled to Columbia to watch our Alma Mater, the Missouri State Bears take on the Missouri Tigers. We spent Saturday with our closest friends watching the game before heading downtown for drinks and more football. On Sunday morning, we had planned to visit wine country in Hermann Missouri for the night. On our way there we had planned to stop at Lost Creek Vineyard on the outskirts of town. As we pulled into Lost Creek, we were blown away at this quaint winery with a beautiful vineyard over-looking a small pond. We went inside to do a wine tasting of their best wines, and decided to grab a glass to enjoy the gorgeous day. They had just began harvesting and we decided to walk up to the vineyard where there was a remarkable vine covered gazebo. Under the gazebo, there was a table with a vase of 9 roses, representing eternal love, and a bottle of wine. Confused, I set my purse on the chair and turned around to see the man I have loved for almost 7 years down on one knee.

We shared so many emotions in those moments, bumped heads laughing, and when he asked me to marry him I of course said YES! After the excitement of the moment, I noticed my best friend and her husband standing outside the gazebo taking pictures. We celebrated and were overjoyed they were there to spend this special time with us. After traveling to a few more wineries, we walked down to the riverside to have dinner at a local restaurant, and watch the sunset. We stayed at a charming bed and breakfast, The Historic Iron Horse Inn, and soaked in being engaged. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect day with the man of my dreams. We could not be happier and are ecstatic about what the future holds. Currently, I am working on my Masters in Occupational Therapy, and will be finished in June 2019. Matthew works as the head estimator of commercial roofing at Aspen Contracting. Things have been busy for us these past few months as we have moved in together and I began grad school. We would not be where we are without the love and support of our families. We will be getting married on August 3rd, 2019 in Kansas City. My high school sweetheart will become my husband and I get to spend forever with my best friend! We don’t just get to grow old together, we get to grow up together. And that’s the real adventure.
