Ashley and Dylan

How We Met

Dylan and I had met through mutual friends in November of 2016. He was from a town about 45 minutes away from mine. However, when we met he was stationed in Hawaii and was suppose to come home in May. We started talked and texting all the time and realized that we both sorta knew about one another. We got to know each other a lot more and realized we were a lot more alike than we had thought. After a few weeks of getting to know one another he asked me to be his girlfriend. I was in the library at school studying for my finals for my classes before getting a month off and heading home from college. I remember crying so much because I was so happy that I ended up having to leave! That’s when I knew he would be the one for me and that I was being led in the right direction.

Proposal Ideas At his parents house

How He Asked

On December 23, 2017, I was picking up my boyfriend (at the time) from the airport. He had just gotten home from being overseas on deployment for 7 months. We spent the next two days preparing stuff for Christmas Day which was planned to be spent at his parents house and my family was there too. On Christmas Day, we got up and opened presents and started the day off. Upon waiting for everyone to get there including my family we helped get everything ready and got ready ourselves. When everyone got there we started off by playing a few games then we ate lunch and played the game of charades. It was Christmas themed and everyone had a turn to go. Knowing me, I’m pretty competitive when it comes to games so when it was Dylan’s turn to go I was ready to guess it first. It was until I realized that his card wasn’t Christmas theme and it threw me off completely!!

At that moment, with me looking like a lost puppy, he got down on one knee and ask me to marry him with my dad right beside me. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to be asked then to be surrounded with my family and his. It was truly a magical day and one I will never forget! I got to celebrate with all my family and my soon to be in laws but most importantly I got to say yes to spending forever with the love of my life. Distance has always been a factor for our relationship due to him being active duty military in the marines but now it’s no longer going to be!!
