Ashley and Alan
How We Met
Alan and I met when we were in the same grade 4 class in elementary school where we continued to go to school together until the end of high school. During high school our best friends dated so we would occasionally hang out in group settings. 10 years after high school the same best friends got hitched in Mexico and we both stood in their wedding party. During that week away, we spent more time together than we ever previously spent. I knew then that he was the one I wanted to marry, but I wasn’t ready to let the bad boys go, and let the perfect one in, so we remained friends. After failed attempts at relationships for each of us, the opportunity presented itself again for us to give a relationship with each other a shot. I let him go once and I knew that I couldn’t let him go again.
How He Asked
A few weeks prior to the proposal, I ran into my photographer friend, Jessy, at an event. She was telling me all about this unity dress project that she was doing. She asked if Alan and I would be interested in being a part of the project. I was thrilled at the opportunity to help out a friend and having some nice pictures of my boyfriend and I together was a bonus. I went home and told Alan immediately that I had signed us up for a photo shoot. Little did I know that Alan had purchased an engagement ring and was going to propose in the near future. He jumped on the opportunity to do the photo shoot and messaged Jessy the next day to plan what was supposed to be a regular photo shoot to help out a friend into the perfect proposal. I had ZERO idea what was being planned for that day.
The evening of the proposal after taking pictures in many different spots, we ended up at the lake for the last backdrop of the session. The view was incredible as we looked out into the water and saw the sun setting.
Jessy had asked us to both stand side by side and gaze out into the lake while she took some photographs.
Moments had gone by and it was silent until Jessy told Alan to “get down” (their code word). I waited for my cue and from the corner of my eye, I could see Alan wasn’t standing next to me so I turned to the side to see what I was supposed to do next and he is down on one knee asking me to be his wife and share the rest of our lives together. After some tears of joy (okay, lots of them) I absolutely said “yes” and we shared the most amazing moment together. I could not have asked for a better surprise and a more perfect proposal.
Jessy at Bows&Lavender did such an incredible job at capturing each and every raw moment and we will cherish them for the rest of our lives!
