A Surprise Welcome Home Party for Him Turns Into a Surprise Proposal for Her
How We Met
Over a year and a half ago, I met the man who would change my world forever. His name is Kenneth Smith. My twin sister, Felicia, signed me up for match.com and conversed with him online as if she was me. He asked “me” on a date and my twin told me when and where to be. Our first date was at the Bahama Breeze in Virginia Beach, VA. Talk about Twin Pranks!!!!
How He Asked
We had been dating for year and a half before he got deployed for eight of those months. When I knew the date he was coming back to me, I decided to throw him a surprise welcome home party in DC. Little did I know that my four sisters were also helping him plan my surprise proposal. Now it makes sense why they kept encouraging me to wear a white outfit that night.
Held at the Hechts in DC, around 6:30 pm, I surprised my love Ken. The look on his face was all I needed. Mind you, my sisters helped me plan that party as well. Around 8:05 pm, we went upstairs to the rooftop because my sisters claimed they were doing fireworks but the scenery was the complete opposite. Ken was waiting for me at the end of this runway full of flower petals, candles, pictures of us, and the last picture being of my mother, who passed away THREE years ago. (I miss you MOMMY)
When I saw my aunt at the end of the runway, I screamed with excitement but knew something was up. She presented me with a stone that had all of my mother sibling’s signatures on it. They even signed her name in the middle. I later found out that Ken wrote a letter to my family to have them do this is honor of my mother’s spirit being with us that day. When Ken pulled out the engagement ring, I lost it but I also couldn’t wait to get that ring on my finger.
Ken and my loved ones got me good. After he proposed, he pointed out my sisters’ and mother’s signature on the stone and I lost it again especially when I saw my mother’s name. All the guests were presented with champagne and there was a final toast.
Everything was so perfect. The sunset, the ring, which was an eternity band with a round cut at the top.
I couldn’t have asked for a better life filled with my beautiful family, friends, and fiancé. I love you all so much. Thank you for this perfect surprise engagement. Salute to love!
