How We Met

We both went to different colleges, but we knew of each other through my sorority sister whom Howard went to high school with. We had just graduated college and moved back to our hometown and Howard took all of us out to a local bar. I did not know at the time, but Howard said he liked me from the moment we met that night. I, unfortunately, had my eye out for someone else. I ended up seeing this other person for about a month, but Howard and I grew close. We went to a college football game together and I ended up crying to Howard about this other guy. Howard told me to stop crying because any man would be lucky to date me. Little did I know that he meant himself. A few weeks later, the two of us went out for drinks and had such a great time that we stayed out for almost four hours. We both went home and he nervously sent me a text about how much fun he had, how much he liked me and how we should do it again. I felt the same way, but told him we should go to dinner to discuss our feelings. We went to dinner the next week and the rest is history. We are now engaged to be married!

How He Asked

It was like any other hot and humid day in South Florida when Howard and I took a trip to the Morikami Museum and Gardens. I was worried about what to wear and how I would hold up in the weather all the while not knowing how he was holding up trying to stay calm before he popped the question.

Unfortunately for the two of us, we did not account for just how humid it would be during our walk at the Museum, but Howard tried to make the most of it while making sure we would stop frequently along the way to take in the views of the gardens (and try to hydrate ourselves with any available water we could find).

Needless to say, the weather brought out the grouch in me, but I kept going. As we reached our final destination, where there was a beautiful waterfall and a gorgeous bridge, I was all but ready to leave. Howard wanted to take some photos in front of the waterfall and I obliged, even though the heat had definitely gotten to me. After he took one last photo, he took my hand and led me to the middle of the bridge where he told me he had a surprise for me. He then got down on one knee and ask me to spend the rest of my life with him! At that moment, the unbearable heat was suddenly bearable, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world, and I couldn’t have been happier!

As he got up, he turned me to my left and revealed two of my best friends who had been there to document the most incredible day of our lives!
