Ariana and Brett
How we met: Our story is a story we didn’t write. God made everything work out and Brett and I can both attest to that. Everything from the first time we met, to the time we really got to know each other, to the time he asked me to be his girlfriend and even up to the proposal, everything was just God steering us in the right direction.
Brett and I first met when we were in high school. He was a junior and I was a sophomore. We started off as friends and then decided to make it official when I was a junior. After graduating, Brett decided to join the United States Army. We had a long distance relationship for about four years. Fast forward to now — we’ve been together for almost eight years, and I can finally say that I get to marry my best friend.
How he asked: We were vacationing with my family when Brett decided to pop the question (for the first time). Our cruise ship, the Grandeur of the Seas made a stop at CocoCay, Bahamas for the day. We had just finished swimming with stingrays and my family and I decided to head back to the cruise ship. As we were walking back my mom said she wanted to get one last picture before boarding the ship. My mom suggested that Brett and I take a picture first. As I was stepping up onto the platform to take the picture, Brett stopped, grabbed my hand and said, “I love you.” Then, Brett got on one knee and popped the question! I was in total shock, so the first thing I did was turn to my parents and asked if they were in on it. To my surprise they were and next thing you know I was making the promise of a lifetime — to spend forever with my best friend.
Later that evening, Brett decided to surprise me with popping the question, again! After our celebratory dinner, my family and I were waiting on our dessert when a group of violinists approached our table. They started playing one of my favorite songs, A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. Our waiter began to come toward our table with what looked liked my dessert (but covered with a napkin). Brett had asked the Chef on board the ship to make me cake with the famous question, “Will You Marry Me?” It was at that exact moment I realized I had made the best decision of my life and it was more than I could have ever dreamed of. It was all in God’s perfect timing.
