Ari and Igli
How We Met
Igli and I met through a mutual friend while I was in college. There was an instant attraction but I was so focused on school that I didn’t have the time for a relationship — let alone a long distance one. For 6 months, he would always ask me to go out for coffee and I finally agreed one day. We dated long distance for about 3 years and every weekend that we would see each other just kept getting better and better. We had a passion for traveling and the trips we would take brought us even closer together.
How He Asked
When I got accepted to medical school in a different country, I was worried about how it would affect our relationship. Things were amazing at the time and I wasn’t sure what the distance (and the stress of not seeing each other for months) would do to us. Little did I know that even before I left for medical school, he had already started looking at engagement rings! When I finished my first semester of medical school, I flew home and he told me that he had planned a surprise vacation for us and I needed to buy warm clothes. Igli proposed to me on our first night of vacation in Las Vegas — 1,000 feet above the ground with an amazing view of the city. We finished our “engagement honeymoon” by skiing in Park City before returning home to our friends and family (who already knew about the engagement!).
