Antonella and Antonio
How We Met
Antonio and I met through a mutual friend when we were both seniors in high school. At the time, my best friend was dating someone who my fiancé went to high school with. Senior prom was approaching and our mutual friend thought it would be a good idea if we went to prom together. I decided to meet him before I committed to a random prom date. In January, we met at a small Italian restaurant in Gravesend, Brooklyn. We sat down and started an awkward conversation. At the same time, my fiancé spilled an entire glass of ice cold water all over me. Sharing this memory, I have always heard this clumsiness was considered “good luck”. So it be told, we fast forward 8 years and planning our wedding.
We have seen each other grow in our careers as NYC employees and always supported each other. We are officially counting day to one of the best days of our lives.
How He Asked
Weeks before the engagement day, my fiancé would randomly share his wedding ideas. It would get me so annoyed to hear these random ideas when we weren’t even planning a real wedding nor did I ever take him seriously. A week before, he told me that we should plan to go to brunch in the city and then walk around Central Park. I was on board to go and eat some delicious brunch but not walk around in the freezing cold in a park. Obviously, I agreed to do both to make him happy. We ate brunch at a small Italian restaurant on the upper east side and then walked our way into the park. I asked him if he had a plan of what he wanted to see specifically or where we would be going. He told me that he was looking for Bow Bridge because the view of the park is really pretty when you stand on the bridge.
I grabbed a map and we started heading towards Bow Bridge. The wind was strong that day but the color of the leaves started to look beautiful. We got to the middle of the bridge and he stopped. He pulled out a two page letter from his pocket and asked me to read it. My mind was racing. As I turned the page, I began to cry knowing what this letter was exactly leading to. He got on one knee and pulled a box out of his pocket. I didn’t have to think twice about my answer to him. On November 19th, 2017, the view on Bow Bridge in Central Park was exceptionally perfect. It is truly a day I will never forget.
