Annel and Dylan
How We Met: I remember the first night I met Dylan at a friends house, he was a freshman and I was a sophomore in college, he introduced himself to me and shook my hand, at that moment all I could think was “I want to be this guys best friend.” Everything about him was intriguing. We started spending a lot of time together and he quickly became my best friend, he was so easy to be around.
We began dating and quickly fell in love. We dreamed of sharing the rest of our lives with one another and spoke about it often. For weeks he would say “Babe, I want to go on an adventure with you” It was unusual for him to plan something out so far in advance-but we both knew that we would be separated by hundreds of miles in just a couple of weeks.
How He Asked: He told me he had found the perfect place to go on an adventure! I absolutely love being outdoors and hiking, so he choose McKinney Falls State Park in Texas. Everything was set to go and the day before it started pouring rain, the next morning as we were trying to decide if we should make the 3 hour drive the thunderstorms continued to pour down.
We decided to take our chances, the road was so scary and dark that about halfway through I began doubting if we had made the right decision. However the closer we got the less it was raining. When we finally made it to McKinney Falls the rain stopped, it was almost magical how we were able to hike through the trails and hear the rushing water falling. I kept looking at Dylan and I was so thankful he decided to keep driving. as we walked through the trails my mind dared to wonder if this could be the day.
Although I hoped with all my heart that it would happen, he was so kind, so relaxed, and so patient that I figured it wouldn’t. We played in the mud, spend time on the swings, and strolled through the park. When we finally made it to the Upper Falls we were standing on the rocks and looking at the waterfall. Dylan was standing behind me and I felt his gentle hand swiveling me around so I would face him. He then asked me “How long have we been dating” and I giggled because I realized I wasn’t sure exactly how long it had been.
He then said, “I know it’s been a year and a few months, during that time each of those days I have seen the Lord redeem who we have been and use us for His kingdom. I have found in you things that I want to keep with me for the rest of my life. Annel, I love you, will you spend the rest of your life with me?” Then suddenly he reached into his pocket and dropped down on one knee, he said “Will you marry me?”
I said “Yes!” about ten times and held out my hand until I finally had to tell him to put the ring on my finger! He quickly grabbed the ring out of the box and slipped it on my finger! At that point I just laughed and laughed because I was so happy!
Our adventure began there at that water fall.
