Anna and Sean
How We Met
Sean and I met our senior year in high school. We are both Catholic and our churches are in the same diocese, which meant both churches were present for our senior retreat. Sean and I were placed in the same small group, where we spent three days getting to know each other on a deeper level than some of even my closest friends knew me!
When we got home from the retreat, we were inseparable. After being the best of friends for about 6 months, Sean finally asked me to be his girlfriend the night of his high school graduation.
How He Asked
He missed my birthday for the second because he was finishing up his master’s program in Louisiana (I live in Indiana), so he told me he was going to make it up to me with a big surprise birthday date when he got home. When I got home from work, he helped me picked the perfect outfit for our mystery date and we hopped in the car headed for downtown Indianapolis. The entire drive there I was trying to guess what this mystery date was until he finally parked and we walked up to a horse-drawn carriage. The carriage took us to Monument Circle in the center of Indianapolis where he insisted on taking a picture. Before we could get into our basic pose we had mastered in 6 years of dating, he dropped down to one knee saying “I’m sorry I made you wait so long. Will you marry me?” I cried so hard I could only shake my head yes and say “Oh my god!”
The carriage then took us to a restaurant downtown where both of our families were waiting for us, including my parents who live in Florida. The date he took me on for the proposal was the exact same date he had taken me on 5 years earlier when he gave me my promise ring!
