Angela and Brent

Angela and Brent's Engagement in Rockefeller Center in New York City

How We Met

I couldn’t have met Brent at a better time in my life. After graduating from college and moving back home, I was clueless as to what comes next. While debating graduate school and of course being single, I tried to make time with my girlfriends as much as I could. One night we went to Chickie’s and Pete’s in Philly to support my friend’s promotional event. Since her sister and friends were there, we decided to all share a table. It just so happened that I chose the seat right next to Brent. We introduced ourselves and immediately hit it off. I remember leaving that night with the biggest grin on my face hoping there was more to come. Shortly after, I received a Facebook friend request along with an inbox message.

I am one of those people who believes that everything happens for a reason. I wasn’t at the most stable place in my life when I met Brent, but I do believe it was fate. He brought light into my life and opened me up to bigger and better things. I knew just after our first date that I met someone truly special. Without him, I wouldn’t be half the person I am today.

How He Asked

Let me start by saying I was completely shocked when and where Brent proposed. Who knew getting down on one knee in ice skates would be so easy?!!? It was the week before Christmas and we planned a weekend trip to New York City. Brent has never been to Rockefeller Center so that was a must-see during our time there. We got to New York in the morning and checked into our hotel. We stopped for brunch and then headed to a few stores. I knew Brent was very eager to get to the tree so my shopping spree didn’t last very long. We finally got there and after many selfie shots in front of the tree, Brent insisted we go ice skating. I was of course a little hesitant because it was so cold out and the line was incredibly long. After an hour of waiting in line, I was growing more and more impatient. I’m pretty sure my toes were even frozen. I probably wasn’t my nicest self but Brent said it was the one thing he wanted to do while we were here. So I sucked it up and waited in line.

We finally got our skates and headed out to the ice rink. Brent used to play ice hockey so he was very sturdy on skates. I on the other hand, not so much! We went around a few times and then took some more pictures. There’s a spot on the rink that’s directly under the tree so we went over there and stopped. We wanted to get a full-length picture and asked a random person to take it.

Angela's Proposal in Rockefeller Center in New York City

Before she could hand back the phone Brent asked, “Would you mind taking one more?” He then turned to face me and said, “Angela, you’re my best friend and I love you.” He slowly got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” I was over-the-moon as I responded, “YES!”

It couldn’t have gone more perfect and it made being stuck in a very long line in the freezing cold so worth it! The best part is this random stranger took the most amazing pictures that I will be able to cherish for the rest of my life. She captured every moment of our proposal and I couldn’t thank her enough. It was everything I could have asked for and more!
