Andreina and Daniel
How We Met
First, his name is Daniel. We are both originally from Caracas, Venezuela. I am 25 years old and he is 24. We met in 2011 during my last year of High School through a common friend. He and his friend had a car accident and I remember the whole school was talking about it but at this point, I didn’t know who Daniel was. A few weeks after the accident they were able to come to school. One morning as I was walking I saw my friend and a guy in a wheelchair, soon enough I realize that was the other guy involved in the accident. It was Daniel.
I stopped to say hi and our friend introduced us, from that moment something clicked in me. We started going out he recovered fully from the accident, and we started to go together to the gym, we exchange phone numbers and from that day we started texting and calling each other constantly. We went on several dates, and finally, on June 12, 2011, he asked me to be his girlfriend. We’ve been together for 7 years now and all I can say is that we have enjoyed every step of this journey.
How He Asked
This past December we were in New York City spending New year’s eve there with his brother. On January 2nd, he told that we had a VIP ticket to Ice-Skate in the rink at the Rockefeller center. I ask him about the VIP ticket and he told me that at one point during the experience they will clear all the people from the rink and only the VIP will be able to skate. As a plan, we went there and I was not that happy because I didn’t know how to skate and it was super cold and I didn’t want to be embarrassed in front of hundreds of people. We started skating, but I was freezing so we went back into the VIP room for 30min. When it was getting close to the end of the experience, we went back to the rink and Daniel asked me to go to the middle of the rink to snap a picture of me -I LOVE PICTURES- so of course, I said yes.
5 minutes later the rink’s staff started yelling “off the ice, off the ice” I was so confused and I told Daniel to leave the rink but he convinced me that we were VIP so we got to stay. They managed to get everyone out, and when the rink was completely empty and hundreds of people started surrounding the rink, our favorite song (perfect by Ed Sheeran) started playing. Everyone started screaming and when I turned my eyes back to Daniel he was there on one knee asking me to marry him.
I was speechless but full of happiness, and with tears of joy in my face, I said YES! After we got out of the rink he told me that everything was being recorded by the videographer he hired and that we were also going to go to some of our favorite places around NYC to do an engagement photo shoot followed by an amazing dinner overlooking Manhattan.
