Andrea and Derby
How We Met
Derby and I met through his sister Farola after church service on July 6th 2014. Neither one of us were interested in getting into something serious, but we didn’t have any issues communicating as friends. I was caught by surprised at how much I actually liked him. I wasn’t convinced that he would be someone I would marry at first however,
I did genuinely feel he was an amazing guy. After speaking to one another for a few weeks, he mentioned that he was going to be back in town and asked if he could take me out. I wasn’t nervous at first but on the day of I felt butterflies in my stomach that would not go away. It was nice to be in the presence of a man who was actually interested in getting to know me without the physical activities. I expressed to him how I wanted to remain celibate until marriage and he respected my wishes. Within a matter of months I felt myself falling for him and by the time a full year had reached I knew I wanted to marry him. I felt inside my heart that he was the one for me. What makes our relationship so special is the genuine love that we have for one another. He is my best friend and I don’t want to live this thing called life without him by my side. He loves God and he loves me, I couldn’t ask for someone better.
How He Asked
On February 3rd 2017 Myself along with the help of some of my friends put together a dinner celebrating Derby’s 30th birthday. He mentioned that the only thing he wanted to do was to be around those who matter to him the most so I made that happen. Friends and family from both my side and his were in attendance to honor him. My brother Carlos Malone who specializes in film even agreed to capture some amazing moments throughout the night. After the dinner portion of the night, myself along with my sister and some friends decided to go on a powder break. When I came back inside of the banquet hall that we had rented for the night, I saw Derby being surrounded by everyone while he stood next to what I thought was his birthday cake. He motioned for me to come over and read the cake and that’s when I realized the cake had “Andrea will you marry me” at the top. The next thing I knew, the love of my life got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife with a beautiful canary cushion cut diamond in his hand. I cried , laughed and cried some more and of course I said yes. The entire time I was planning his birthday, he was planning our future. Almost everyone in the room was in on the surprise proposal dinner. As I type the events that occurred on that night, I can’t help but cry. I am truly thankful to God for this amazing man that he placed in my life. I look forward to spending forever with him.
