Amy and Bryan

Wedding Proposal Ideas in Mequon, Wisconsin

How We Met

Bryan and I met during our sophomore year of college when we both became campus tour guides for our Alma Mater, the University of Arizona. We became friends throughout that process, but didn’t talk much until the end of our sophomore year since we were both dating other people. Finally, we were both single and I remember spending the last night of our sophomore year sitting on top of a washing machine in a laundry room talking with Bryan (and his friend Tyler) for hours and hours. Apparently later that night, Bryan texted his friend Tyler and said, “I am going to marry Amy Dias”.

Fast forward to August of our junior year, Bryan and I had reconnected after coming back from summer and he asked me out on a lunch date but I, unfortunately, rejected him. I had just taken on a new position in my sorority and had started my student teaching, so I thought that a relationship would be too much on my plate. It only took me about a week to realize that rejecting Bryan was a HUGE mistake and I confided in my mom that I definitely should have said yes to the date. A couple of weeks later, my family came out to Tucson, AZ for Family Weekend and we met up with some of our family friends, who happened to be in the same fraternity as Bryan, to tailgate before the game. At the tailgate, my mom bumped into Bryan’s mom and hit it off right away. Once they realized who each other were, Bryan’s mom shared that Bryan told her that I was the girl he was in love with. We went to the game together that night and the rest is history!

How He Asked

Since the beginning of time, every hint that Amy had dropped about our future proposal strongly encouraged the idea of it happening during Christmas time. But for some reason, I couldn’t get on board with it. Christmas time is her favorite time of the year, and although the last thing I wanted to do was disappoint her, I couldn’t imagine a proposal that she would be expecting. I started planning a complex proposal set for spring, and had just about all of the details set when I decided to scrap it all. Engagements are a once in a lifetime moment, so I had to find a way to propose during Christmas time and catch her off guard.

Where to Propose in Mequon, Wisconsin

Amy and I had a trip planned to Chicago and Wisconsin to visit my family for a week after Christmas. Her family and I found ways to convince her that there was no way the proposal was going to happen on this trip so she couldn’t suspect a thing. On New Year’s Eve, we went to dinner with our friends, Mitch and Molly, while my parents and sister were supposedly setting up for New Year’s Eve Party at home. After our drive back from dinner, I had Mitch drop Amy and I off at the front door which was unusual because we always go through the garage. Amy started walking towards the garage door, but I grabbed her hand and pulled her under my front porch which was decorated with garland and Christmas lights. Before I could get a word out, Amy looked at me speechless and started to cry. I told her how I am ready to start the rest of our lives together, grabbed the ring that was hidden in the bush behind me, got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.

Little did she know, this was not the only surprise of the evening. After walking inside and being greeted with hugs from my family, we decided to celebrate with a champagne toast in the basement. She walked downstairs to find her parents and two sisters waiting for her.

In the end, I found a way to surprise her and make her dreams come true.
