Amanda and Mike

How We Met

Mike and I met in high school. We were in the same government class sophomore year and I remember seeing him walk into the classroom for the first time very clearly. I had a huge crush on him instantly and remember going home to find him on Facebook and show him to my sister. We were both pretty shy so he didn’t really notice me until senior year when we both happened to be science aids during a free period. We had to help out at the science fair and got to talking and I thought he was still very attractive and super funny as well. Prom was coming up and I had a mutual friend hint that I wanted him to ask me, and luckily he did! It all moved pretty quickly from there on. it just felt so right.

How He Asked

Mike is in the army and stationed across the country, so visits home and usually a pretty big deal. He came home for Christmas leave and I was really hoping he would propose, but didn’t want to get my hopes up too much!

I was just finishing up finals week and a pretty big training week for a running challenge I’m doing, and unfortunately I felt myself coming down with a nasty cold. I rallied for the first day or so he was home, hoping it would just go away with some rest. On the day I started feeling especially crummy he mentioned we should take my new puppy for a walk in one of our favorite parks the next day, and I happily agreed hoping this would be the big moment (I found out later it was supposed to be-and had been planned for 2 months!). Unfortunately, the next morning I woke up with a fever and just feeling awful in general so I went to the doctor and found out I had a sinus infection. Womp womp. So much for our walk. Luckily, Mike jumped right on board like the flexible man he is and started figuring out a way to change his proposal plan. We went back to his parents house and he got me cozied up with tea and medicine and we snuggled while watching my favorite movie, We Bought a Zoo. It also happens to be the movie we watched on our first date together. After the movie was over and I was feeling a little better, he suggested we walk around their property, saying it would “help me feel better”, and it really did! We made it to this little white gazeebo by his house that I always loved and where we spent a large amount of our first date in.

He started saying wonderful things about how he couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with me and before I knew it he was down on one knee asking me to marry him with the most beautiful ring I could ever imagine.

He got my sister to photographer the whole thing, and knowing how much effort they both went through to plan a proposal and change it literally last minute without batting an eyelash made me feel so loved. It is very indicative of the man Mike is-caring, thoughtful, calm, patient, and flexible. I can’t wait to be his wife. In sickness and in health, right?
