Amanda and Jimmy

How We Met

I officially met Jimmy Gosch when I was in the 9th grade. Growing up in the same neighborhood I had seen the dreamy older boy from one street over race down the road on his motorcycle many times. If I heard him coming I would either run to the front door and press my head against the glass to catch a glimpse of that golden skin flying by, or if I felt particularly brave I would walk outside and pretend like I needed to check the mail or grab something from the car. Occasionally he would wave at me or pop a wheelie simply to acknowledge my presence, of course leaving me fantasizing about him the rest of the afternoon.

One day, there wasn’t the familiar roar of a motorcycle engine coming down the road to warn me of his upcoming approach. So it was much to my surprise when I looked up to see a 1994 blue Ford Taurus coming to a stop as I was walking down the street towards the pond. The moment I recognized him I must have instantly turned bright red; then that golden boy leaned out the window and said “Hey”. It took me a minute to gather my bearings while my high school crush, the most attractive boy I had ever seen, was staring at me awaiting my response. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest that I could barely hear, through a shaky voice I responded “Hey”. He smiled at me and attempted to make small talk. The whole encounter lasted 3 minutes tops, but to me it felt like an eternity of vulnerability and incessant facial flushing, consciously aware of my acne and uncool outfit. His calm smile exuded a confidence I had never seen before, he must have sensed that this little freshman girl was flustered that the senior guy was actually speaking to her. It all ended with a simple “see ya around” and a wave. I turned around and watched him drive off, thinking I was the luckiest girl in the world that he stopped and talked to me. I still feel lucky that he’s the first person I talk to every morning and the last person I talk to before falling asleep at night. That confident senior is now my confident fianc√© and he still makes my heart race.

How He Asked

I had been looking forward to this day for months, a mix of excitement and anxiety flooded my veins when I woke up that morning. I was going to check something off of my bucket list that I had wanted to accomplish for so long: be a model for a real photoshoot. It was an extra perk that I was getting to spend the day with the photographer, Christine, who happens to be one of my favorite people on the planet. There was no pressure as we met each other at the hair/makeup artist’s house that morning. It was such a treat to sit in the chair while Pam of Southern & Adorn performed her magic of transforming me from my normal everyday self into a pretty damn convincing model. After getting all dolled up, Christine and I headed to the grab a few extra items for the shoot and made our way to Montgomery, TX.
The venue was absolutely stunning. Olde Dobbin Station is one of those perfect combinations of elegant and authentic rolled into one. Since our shoot was going to be outside and we didn’t want to ruin all the hard work Pam put into my transformation that morning, Christine had me stay in the air conditioned bridal suite which was not something I was going to complain about one bit. Christine & Elizabeth Abshire Events & Design got to work setting up all of their stations they were anticipating to photograph for our ‘shoot’ with other local Houston vendors: a sweetheart tables cape with rentals provided by Rent the Foundry, a cake station provided by Whisk Bakery, a detail station including the most gorgeous florals from Maxit Flower Design, and the bridal station, which is where I come in! When it was finally time for the photos to commence I got to meet Elizabeth, who was so kind and helped to shake off the nerves of being a first time model.¬† The more photos we took, the more the anxiety of began to melt off.
As I’m following Christine’s instructions of my next pose I see something out of the corner of my eye. Jimmy, my hopelessly romantic boyfriend coming around the corner, dressed to the nines with my dog at his side wearing a big pink bow. Confusion sets in as I try to figure out what he’s doing here. I turn to Christine and everyone is staring at me with the most genuine smiles, all of the sudden it clicks. This wonderful man I going to ask me to marry him. I turn back to Jimmy, trying to take it all in, but still in complete shock. He’s sweating and shaking, his ability to be so emotionally raw making him even more attractive. My protector, my best friend, the guy I’ve had a crush on since I was 15, the love of my life, gets down on one knee and asks me to be his wife.
Honestly, I don’t even remember the words coming out of my mouth because it all seemed so unreal. But I must have said yes because he got up off that knee, kissed me, and we hugged each other. We then took our engagement photos on various parts of the venue, some which got to include my pup, Sugar Buns. I kept checking my left hand to see if the ring was actually there, hoping I hadn’t somehow daydreamed this entire situation. Good news: the ring is still there, the proposal was real, and our love is going to last a lifetime.
