Amanda and Frank
How We Met: Frank started working for my uncle in 2005 at the age of 17 when he was just out of school. The day we met I happened to be off from school. He was 17 and I was 14. Everyone would tease me telling me I like him and had a crush on him, and being so young I would deny it and say things like “I would rather chew my arm off!” After a month of spending time with him I had fallen head over heals in love. In August of 2005 at his sister’s wedding he asked me to be his girlfriend. We have been together ever since. He truly is my high school sweetheart!!
How He Asked: I was raised since I was a baby by my grandmother, I did not grow up with a mother so to me my grandmother was my mother. In February of 2014 we got devastating news that she was diagnosed with lung cancer and end stage COPD. The doctor only gave her six months to live. We began taking trips throughout the year down to Florida to visit her and spend as much time with her as we were able to. We planned this last trip down to Florida for January because on the 19th was my grandmother’s birthday, and the 16th was his mother’s birthday. Frank’s mother passed away in 2008 and the entire family took it hard. Frank’s mother was like a second mother to me, and losing her hurt alot.
The night of the proposal we were sitting on the tiki deck watching a live band. Frank grabbed my hand and said to me “Babe I love you alot, and you mean the world to me. We have been together for 10 years and there is nothing more than i want then to spend the rest of my life with you!” As he started to reach into his pocket i started to get short of breath thinking i can’t believe this is really happening. Then he pulled out his pockets to show there was nothing in them. (every girls nightmare right!!) Little did i know this was a part of his plan. A little while later while he let me continue to be mad for the horrible joke he played on me he asked if i still wanted to take a walk on the beach. I said yes of course, as we were walking on the beach he was telling me how much he loved me and that he really did mean what he said about wanting to be together forever. He stood me infront of him and i felt him turning me around to face him. I saw him getting down on one knee and i covered my eyes and cried hysterically. After he slid the ring on my finger he asked “So is that a yes?” I of course said yes!! He then told me that the reason he did it on that day was because it was right in the middle of both our mother’s birthdays. He also told me he chose Florida because it would always be a special place, even after my mother was gone. That was the happiest day of my life!!
