Amanda and Cody's Hawaiin Proposal
How We Met
We went to High School together at Torrance High and started dating soon after graduation. Can’t believe it took us 4 years to realize how we felt about each other, but God sure does have an awesome way with his timing! Wouldn’t change it for a thing!
How He Asked
One year before the proposal my family began planning a ‘grand’ trip for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. When thinking of destinations, Hawaii quickly was suggested. We have family members that live on Oahu and it had been a very long time since the whole crew was together. Needless to say, this was a big trip for our family. Unfortunately, Cody had let us all know he wouldn’t be able to come. This sucked! (if we are going to be honest) This was probably the last trip with all my cousins and I was pretty bummed Cody wouldn’t be able to come.
Before we knew it July was here and all 19 of us were getting ready to leave for the airport, but it just didn’t seem right that Cody wasn’t there. Aside from my mom, not a single family member was acting strange so I really had no clue. I later found out it was because no one knew! Cody knows my family all too well and he knew no one could keep a secret. So only my parents were in on it, not even my brother or sister knew.
When we land, we start making all kinds of plans of what we are going to do. My mom was stressing! I was told that we were taking family photos. Just my parents, myself, and my siblings. Which was the first thing I thought to be strange since all my cousins and aunts and uncles were on the trip too. It didn’t occur to me till that moment that we were taking photos the day we land! I immediately thought, “Who does that!? Schedules photos after a long day of travel?? No one looks good after sitting on a plane for 5 hours!” Since no one had a clue what was going on, plans were changing and in my mom’s words “heading south fast.”
My mom managed to get us to the house just with enough time to do a quick refresh for photos. It was hot, like real HOT! and humid! As all my cousins immediately jumped in the pool, I was putting make-up on as it felt as if it were melting off my face. I looked at my sister and said, “these are going to be the worst family photos we take.” Ha! Boy was I wrong! Before we left my mom handed a letter to my Aunt Jackie.
When we arrived at Laie Point my mom and I got out of the car and we met Reese. I don’t really remember how, but my mom somehow was gone and Reese and I walk out a little farther to take some test shots. Still totally clueless, we took a few test shots. Reese suggested we walk a little further out and when I turned around I saw Cody standing on the cliff with his hands behind his back. From that moment on, I knew why he was there and I couldn’t stop smiling!! Literally, couldn’t stop!
After embracing each other and letting it soak in that he was really there, Cody dropped to his knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him! Of course I said yes!! What an incredibly moment it was!!
Now back to the letter my mom left with my aunt. While I we were having one of the most amazing/epic moments ever… my aunts were gathering the family as they read a letter that explained everything that was happening just 15mins down the road! Man do I wish someone had taken a video! At the end of the letter it said where to find the champagne and decorations my mom had left behind.
When Cody and I returned there were banners and tassels and crazy excited family members waiting to great us with champagne in hand! It was so special and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
