Alyssa and Kyle's Disney World Proposal
How we met: Kyle and I met my senior year of high school (his junior year) in November 2008. We had a mutual friend who we both sat with one day during lunch. We chatted a bit that day, and I remember he was just so easy and pleasant to talk to. About a month later, I was dancing at our high school basketball game, and there he was…on the team! It was a big high school, so that wasn’t a surprise that I didn’t know that detail. After that, our mutual friend and I met up with him and some of his friends for some sledding at a nearby hill, and again, he was so easy to talk to. A few days after that, he got my number and we started talking and dating from there.
How he asked: Fast forward 5 years and I find out his mom has booked his entire family (including his sister’s boyfriend and me), a trip to Disney World. I had always told him it would be my dream to have Disney World involved in some way whether it was the proposal, wedding, or honeymoon. Freaking out at this opportunity, I could only hope it would transpire the way I thought I could only dream about. June 14th, 2014 was finally here, the day of our trip. I don’t think I could have been any more excited at the possibility, yet I was unusually calm. We woke up early that morning to catch our flight. We made it to Orlando, and as we were checking into our hotel, Kyle’s dad noticed his camera, which he had charged the night before, was dead. I could notice this was making Kyle a bit anxious, but I wasn’t getting my hopes up. Once we checked in, we charged the camera and got lunch.
Finally it was time to head to the park. Just as we got to the bus stop to take us to Magic Kingdom, we heard a loud clap of thunder and the skies opened up. Again, this made Kyle a bit anxious, but I still would not get my hopes up.
After waiting for the bus and making our way to the park, the rain finally let up just enough that we would not end up miserable. As we were walking down Main Street, we were trying to decide what to do. We all decided this would be a great opportunity to stop and take some pictures in front of Cinderella’s Castle. We started taking pictures and he grabs my hands and that is when I knew for sure. After being up since 3 am, this was the moment he finally got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. Also to my surprise, his best friend (who is also his sister’s boyfriend) was on FaceTime with my parents so they were able to watch the whole thing all the way from our home in Michigan. After that, we had an entire week of fun in Disney to celebrate I still can’t believe I got the proposal of my dreams.
