Alyse and Paul

How We Met

Paul and I met in the winter of 2012. I was a student at Oakland University and would often meet up with a friend of mine, Paolo to study at Caribou coffee. Paolo eventually began working at Caribou and introduced me to his boss, Beth. The first time I met Beth, she took a step back, looked me up and down and told me I would be perfect for her son, Paul! It was a little odd, but I didn’t think much of it. Weeks later Paul came into Caribou to visit his mom at work. I was sitting at a table when I saw Paul walk in (not knowing who he was)I told her mom that I was going to marry him one day (Totally creepy, I know! But hey, I was right!).

How He Asked

I had always wanted to travel to Maine. I’m not really sure why I just wanted to go. So in the summer of 2017, Paul and I got in the car and drove out to Maine. It took us 24 hours, but we made it! We spent a lot of our time exploring Acadia National Park. It was beautiful! One morning we set out to hike around Jordan Pond.

Along the trail, we saw a sign for Bubble Rock and decided to veer off course and climb the mountain. We climbed up rocks and boulders (which we had no business doing!) and stopped at a bluff to take a breath and admire the view. We were 6 feet from the edge and Paul is afraid of heights! His legs were shaking as he got down on one knee, held my hand, said a bunch of stuff that neither of us can remember and asked me to marry him!
