Allie and Tripp
How We Met
Tripp and I both went to college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was one year ahead of me in school and both of us were involved with the same campus ministry! We met my freshman year briefly at a retreat where we speed dated and then we developed a closer friendship the following summer when I first started to have feelings for him! Lucky for me, my sophomore year, we had a class together each semester and became really close. This is around the time that he began having feelings for me as well! We continued to be friends throughout the rest of my college days, running a half marathon together, watching movies, reading books, and all the while both of us wanted something more. We waited patiently (and sometimes impatiently) until the spring semester of my senior year when he finally asked me on a date!
How He Asked
I was visiting my aunt and uncle in Paris without Tripp and was having a great time, but all the while wishing that he was there to share it with. Without me knowing, he coordinated with my aunt and uncle to set up the most wonderful surprise of my life! My aunt and I were planning to go to Disneyland Paris for the day and my uncle was planning on resting at the apartment all day (or so I thought!). My uncle picked Tripp up from the airport around noon and then they spent the rest of the day scouting out the best spot to pop the question. My aunt and I spent the day riding rides and then were planning to meet my uncle for a nice dinner near Notre Dame! We had a rendezvous with my uncle at the Shakespeare and Company bookstore and then headed over to the cathedral to take some pictures because it was so beautifully illuminated at night. My uncle was taking my picture when I felt a hand on my shoulder! It was Tripp! I was absolutely speechless and could not believe that he was in Paris! The next thing I knew, he was on one knee asking me to be his wife! After that I learned that Tripp had put together this special proposal in just a few days with the surprising support and generosity of our friends who came together and helped Tripp buy his plane ticket! We spent the rest of the night walking the streets of Paris, seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle, and eating French food. I couldn’t believe that 1. Tripp was in Paris, 2. he had asked me to be his wife!!!, and 3. we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together!
