Allie and Tim
How We Met
At the end of my senior year of high school, I started working at Shamrock Deli in Audubon, NJ. Every time I came home from college for a holiday break, I would go and work at the deli to make some extra beer money. My junior year of college I came home for Easter break and walked in the deli, hungover, to find Tim working there. Tim had worked at my swim club for years before that and probably made me countless mozzarella sticks but I never really noticed him until that day and thought that he had gotten really good looking since the last time I saw him. When I came home for the summer, I was overjoyed to see that Tim was still working there and I had some eye-candy to get me through the long working days. It was the year the Flyers made the Stanley Cup and I overheard Tim talking on the phone one day with his friends that they were going to Otts that night for the game. I wanted an excuse to see him outside of the work place when I wasn’t covered in mayo and potato salad so I immediately texted all my friends to see if they wanted to head to Otts for the game, too. I stopped at Modell’s on the way home to pick up a Flyers t-shirt so it would look like I was a fan. I had no clue who any of the players on the team were and settled for a “Richards” shirt since he was the only name I could actually pronounce. When I got to the bar and saw Tim walk in, I got up “to go to the bathroom” so I could pass by him on the way. I totally pulled an “Oh my God! I didn’t know you were going to be here!” And the rest is history. We went to the bars together for the rest of the series and went shot for shot in the 7th game which went into a high-scoring overtime. After that night I knew Tim was different than any other guy I had met and I was excited to see where the relationship was going to go. On June 22, 2010 he asked me to be his girlfriend.
How He Asked
Tim and my sister, Samantha, had been plotting together for a couple of weeks: Samantha planned for us to go to a wine festival at Tyler State Park in Newtown, and Tim had been acting like he didn’t want to go because the Eagles were playing the Redskins at 1 o’clock that day, and he wanted to watch the game.
We went, though, and when we got to the park, there was a beautiful stream with big rocks that we came up to. He told me he wanted to check to see if he could see any fish in there, and I followed him. After “looking for fish” for a minute, I turned to him and he told me he loved me and then pulled out the box. I thought it was a joke until he got down on one knee and showed me the most gorgeous ring I had ever seen.
After saying “Oh my god” about 100 times, I screamed “YES!” When he got up off the ground, he told me to look behind me and I saw my whole family and his whole family walking out of hiding where they witnessed the whole thing. I immediately started crying all over again. Samantha even got the whole thing on video. There was no actual wine fest, and instead we went back to my sister’s house to celebrate. When I walked in the door, Tim had my five best friends all standing there to surprise me. It was the most perfect day.
