Ali and Sheldon

How We Met

Two years ago I was at work sitting at my desk when my co-worker Ashley slid over and said “I know a guy that would be perfect for you!” After agreeing to give it a whirl, this mystery dream man and I exchanged numbers and began talking daily. We decided to meet that weekend in the town he lives, which was two hours away from me, at a restaurant on the beach. As the old saying goes, the rest was history. We instantly clicked and began commuting back and forth every weekend to see each other. The drive became tiresome quickly and after four months we moved in together! Call it love at first sight, but I knew Sheldon was the one when I met him. We’ve been inseparable ever since.

How He Asked

My valentine made special plans to whisk me away to the beautiful West Coast beach town of Tofino for my birthday which is also Valentine’s Day. He had started giving me (false) hints about my gifts weeks earlier, joking with me and saying my gift wasn’t too amazing so don’t get my hopes up. He even went as far as packing what I thought were gifts into the SUV the morning of our departure to the beautiful Blackrock Resort. We made the road trip up and in the torrential rain but that didn’t put a damper on our weekend away. We stopped for lunch and then Sheldon started mentioning he wanted to check out the surfers at Cox Bay Beach. We drove right passed the entrance and I proceeded to tell him lets just go to the other beach! It really wasn’t a big deal and we could see the surfers anywhere. But, he insisted so he turned the car around and we headed to our destination. Once at the beach, the rain miraciously cleared up and I started looking at all the pretty sand dollars washed up on the sand. Sheldon was persistently pulling me towards the rocks claiming to want to look for starfish. With my head down, hood on, I cluelessly scoured the sand for sea life until he exclaimed “what’s that?”, in the sand was written: Ali will you marry me? and by the time I finished reading it and had turned to him, he was down on one knee asking me to be his wife! I was so shocked I couldn’t stop crying and could barely squeak out a yes. That’s when he pulled off my hood and pointed towards the trees where the photographer was hiding out and captured the whole thing. We then had an engagement photoshoot in the moment at one of the most beautiful places in Canada. It was so romantic and well thought out, I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate.
