Alexis and Andres
How We Met
Andres and I are high-school sweethearts. We started dating senior year of high-school! Interestingly enough, we had been paired up on a double date 2 years prior but neither of us pursued each-other post-date. However, by senior year things had changed, he was switched to my English class and after countless weeks of flirting, our teacher having to separate our seats (haha) and numerous friends insinuating a “connection”, he asked me on a date. He was the perfect date and we’ve been together ever since. It’s now been 7 beautiful years of growing, exploring and learning together and I couldn’t ask for a better partner.
How He Asked
Andres organized our first joint family vacation with both of our families to propose to me in my favorite city in the world, Barcelona. While in college, i’d studied abroad there and fell in love with the city so he knew it held a special place in my heart. What I thought would be just an amazing family vacation would turn out to be so much more… On our last night there, Andres had the entire top floor of the National Art Museum in Barcelona reserved for a private dinner just for our family.
As we ate dinner our backdrop was the Barcelona skyline, it was absolutely breathtaking. About 15 minutes into dinner, Andres asked us all to get up for a photo together where he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him!
Little did i know, a camera crew had been recording us the entire night. I’ve never been so surprised in my life. Andres lost his mother 6 months ago and then 4 months later I tragically lost my little brother so the fact that he was able to pull this off in the midst of all that we are going through brings tears to my eyes.
I find the most comfort in knowing that before his mother’s passing she was involved in the planning of the proposal and that she was so happy to be apart of it. However, what’s even more beautiful is that before Andres asked he made it a point to go to my brothers gravesite and show him the ring and ask for his official approval. Those special details will live with me forever. It was truly an amazing moment that couldn’t have come at a better time in our lives.
