Alexa and Colin
How we met: During Christmas 2011, I went on a vacation to Jamaica with my family. About two or three days into my vacation, I met the most beautiful man I have ever seen in my life. After meeting his family sporadically around the resort, we spent every second together after that. When the vacation was over, Colin and I exchanged numbers. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen, or if I was even going to stay in touch with him – considering I live in the United States and Colin lived in Canada! Low and behold, ten days after we left Jamaica, Colin came to visit me in the States. In that one week we spent together in the States, we knew we wanted to form a real relationship and become official boyfriend and girlfriend. Within the next year, Colin and I went back and forth visiting each other – Colin coming to visit me at the University of Maryland, and me visiting Canada. We hated long distance, but every night we would fall asleep on Skype together, so the next day we could, in a sense, wake up together. We finally decided that Colin would move to America. And after a year of our long distance relationship, Colin finally moved to the United States!!!
How he asked: Fast forward to almost three years later when Colin and I decided to take a trip to Ocean City, MD before I had to go back to school. Minutes before we were about to leave for the trip, Colin told me that I was going to need a bigger suitcase and that we were heading to the airport first thing the next day (but he wouldn’t tell me where we were going!) . So, on the next day, when we finally checked into our flight, I saw that Colin was taking me to Jamaica! He was taking me to the same country that we met, to the exact same resort that we met at. When we arrived in Jamaica, Colin told me he was going to the front desk to try to upgrade our room. (Little did I know what he was planning!) On the first night in Jamaica, we went to the show that the resort puts on every night. During the show, Colin got called up on stage because the entertainment crew ‘met him earlier that day and wanted him to sing a song to the audience’ (or so I thought). The entertainment crew called me up on stage as well, and I had no idea what was happening. Colin had the microphone and explained to the audience that we had met at that same resort and that he wanted to ‘ask me one question.’ The audience (full of hundreds and hundreds of people) cheered and he asked me to marry him! And of course, I cried all night! We spent the next few days in Jamaica, in complete bliss! I cannot wait to marry this man!
