Alexa and Sheldon
How We Met
Sheldon and I grew up in the same tiny town, so I have known him for quite some time. I have had a crush on Sheldon for as long as I can remember. It’s funny because my grandpa says that from an early age, I was coming home from school talking about how cute Sheldon was! I still have some of the cheesy notes he wrote me in middle school. But, it wasn’t until high school that Sheldon finally started to pay a bit more attention to me. I started working for Sheldon’s dad during the summer. Working for Sheldon’s dad meant getting to see him all summer long, so I wasn’t complaining. We would talk a lot, occasionally flirt, and he even tricked me into our first kiss…but I couldn’t be too mad about it! After many months of just talking, Sheldon finally asked me to be his girlfriend on January 1, 2011. I’m not sure how, but I always knew that we had something special from the beginning.
How He Asked
I love this story! Sheldon and I had been dating almost 7 years when he finally popped the question. We had just survived a year of being 5 hours away from each other, and a tough year that was. Anyways, my family, Sheldon, and I were on vacation at my most favorite place in the world, St. George Island, Florida. It was the second day of vacation, and a beautiful day it was! Sheldon spent most of the day reading. I asked him multiple times why he was being so quiet, his response was that he was just tired from the drive the previous day. As we were leaving the beach for the day, heading in to get ready for dinner, my mom mentioned how she would like to take some family photos on the beach after dinner. I go inside, shower, fix my hair, put on my makeup, and go to pick out my outfit. As I lay out a pair of shorts and a tank top, Sheldon makes a comment about how the outfit I chose was not dressy enough for the family photos. Without listening to him, I put on the outfit that I picked out. He then tells me again how my outfit is not dressy enough and that it does not look good. At this point, I am annoyed because I think my outfit is perfectly fine. So, I motion towards my closet and tell him to pick out my outfit. He picked out a pretty white dress with purple flowers on it. Little did I know that I would be thanking him later for making me change my outfit. After dinner we all made our way down to the beach. Sheldon took my hand as we got off the pier and we made our way down to the water. As we walked down the beach he started talking about our relationship. I don’t remember much of the conversation because when he started talking, I knew what was about to happen. I started to cry because here I am at the most beautiful place, with the most perfect man, telling me all the reasons why he loves me. Finally, Sheldon got down on one knee, asked the big question, and showed me the most beautiful ring I have ever seen. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. My family being there to take photos and witness this wonderful moment was the icing on the cake! July 24, 2016 will forever be one of my favorite days, right after our wedding day of course!
