How We Met

In June of 2016, my best friend was marrying his best friend. We had never met prior to the wedding because I live in Honduras as a missionary English teacher, but my friend had told me a little about him. The first time we met was at the wedding rehearsal and subsequent pool party, but both of us being pretty shy, we didn’t talk much. At the wedding the next day I stayed pretty busy with all my maid of honor duties, while he hung out with the groom and other groomsmen, but I had apparently caught his eye. After the wedding (and both of us making comments to our now-married friends about being interested in each other) they set up a get together for the four of us on my friend’s birthday, which was three days after the wedding. Here we were able to actually talk and get to know each other a little more. A few days later he got my phone number from my friend (he was too shy to ask me for it himself!) and we started talking. He asked to take me out on a date, and we have been together ever since.

How He Asked

In the spring of 2017 I was able to fly back to Georgia for a week while my school was on Spring Break. We planned to hike and have a picnic lunch in the FDR State Park, where we had gone on one of our first dates. After hiking back to one of the waterfalls, we sat down to have our lunch. After eating, we set up the camera with a self-timer on a bench to get our picture in front of the waterfall. While I went back to look at the picture, he went over to his backpack to get the ring. After telling me how much he loved me, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife! I can’t ever remember everything he said because I was too excited! We hiked out of there way faster than we hiked in because I couldn’t wait to go share the news with everyone!
