How We Met

Mikey and I met by pure fate.  He is a volunteer firefighter and I was a paramedic on the same fire department he is currently on. One day, I went on a fire call, and the volunteer firefighters normally show up to those calls.  It was a gas leak, nothing too serious, but he came up to the ambulance to talk to my partner and it was love at first sight.  I knew I wanted this man in my life, I just did not know how well it would eventually turn out.  He started coming to the station and responding to calls because he knew that I was working, and subsequently we ended up talking, and flirting.  The more I learned about him the more I fell in love with him.  I learned that he was the most humble, dedicated, and genuine man I have ever met, and even that is an understatement.  We had a connection that was unlike any other.  We got to the point where we were talking every day, and we formed a very strong friendship that turned into a strong relationship.

He used to pick me up from school and we would go for a ride and talk.  One snowy day we went for a drive to my favorite park in town.  It was a quiet night and snow was falling.  We at and talked that night for hours.  We both sat in silence and listened to music this was one of our favorite things to do together.  Sometime after, a few deer ran right past his car, and I looked at him with eyes of excitement because of how close they were.  He looked at me, and that is the moment he told me he fell in love with me.

How He Asked

I was a bad fiancee-to-be, and I kind of knew he had the ring.  We had a trip planned out for Las Vegas, and I knew he took it with him because I saw it one day in our safe in our hotel room.  Day after day, I saw the box in the safe and thought to myself, “No, it doesn’t look like he is going to propose today.”

The day he proposed we went to the Titanic Exhibit, the Bodies Exhibit, and to see the Blue Man Group.  I was carrying a picture from the Titanic all day, and we wanted to take it back to the room so that it did not get ruined.  I thought he was going to pick up the ring, and he still did not touch the safe.

The picture we dropped off at the hotel before he proposed.

We went out to dinner, and every night we went to the Bellagio to watch the fountains.  This time though, he took me up to a semi-private balcony in front of the hotel to get a different view of the fountains.  This area was absolutely gorgeous.  We watched a few shows, and I felt the need to sit down because my feet were killing me.  Mikey started to get really quiet at this point.  I asked if he wanted to see if there was one more show, and he nodded.  It was too bad there wasn’t because we already watched the last show at midnight.  We decided it was time to call it a night and head back to our hotel.  As we were walking back towards the main fountain in front of the Bellagio he said, “There’s one more thing we have to do before we leave.”  Apparently I lit up so much that he said, “You know what’s going on.”  He got down on one knee and I was so surprised!  He carried the ring in his pocket all day!  I was so speechless all I could do was nod when he asked me to marry him.  It was so intimate, and no one noticed that we even got engaged.

We asked a lady to take our photo for our engagement and she said that she was actually a photographer!  Everything fell in place, and I knew that there is no one that I would rather spend the rest of my life with.

The Bellagio Fountains will always hold a special place in my heart.  Who said what happens in Vegas ALWAYS stays in Vegas? ;)
