Alani and Yusel

How We Met

Yusel and I have known each other for about 4 years. During this time we barely spoke to each other. It became official when the seller of my home happen to be his cousin. As soon as she met me, right away she said she had to introduce me to her cousin which happen to be Yusel.

I told her she was crazy he would never be interested an a girl like me. A couple of days later I received a text message from his sister, introducing herself.  She apologized since she had never done anything like this before.

It was honestly the funniest and most adorable gesture. A few minutes later I received a text message from Yusel officially inviting me to his sister and cousins funeral after he found out what they had done.

After this day we began to text and get to know each other. This went on for a couple of months. I was hesitant at first, since I wasn’t ready for a relationship. As time went on we went out on a couple dates.

On July the 4th, I spent time with him and his family at the beach which is when I realized he was not like any other guy, he was definitely special.  Spending time with his family I realized what a great family he had.

The next day, he delivered roses to my house, which just melted my heart. We went out with friends the following weekend where we first kissed. From that moment on we were inseparable. We continued to see each other every single day and the more time I spent with him the quicker I fell for him.

Although we had only been together for a short amount of time it had felt like years. Both of us felt that things were different with our relationship than ever before. Time was not a measure of our relationship, what we felt was the indicator of how special our relationship was.

Our families’ bond happened just as quickly as ours, which was very meaningful to the both of us as we are extremely family oriented. We went on our first vacation together with family to Mexico and had an amazing time.

Quickly after we planned our next trip which was to New York City. As we awaited for our New York trip to arrive, little did I know that Yusel had already started planning the proposal. He coordinated with a both of our families and friends to surprise me on our special day.

He had to go behind my back with lies as plans were made for that day. I had suspcions that something was going on as it seemed that he was at times hiding something from me and it was not like him to do so.

As an example, he made it a point that I must have a special outfit for Friday night(11/11), because we were supposed to be going to a broadway show. The day finally came and we were heading to New York with a few friends. We stayed at the DoubleTree in Times Square which was breathtaking.

We were in the heart of it all! As I stared up in amazement at the sizes and amount of billboards that flooded Times Square, never would I have thought that my proposal would come up on one of them, much less with pictures of us.

Friday, 11/11 finally arrived. The day was set with numerous of things to do such as Empire State building, Top of the Rock observation deck, dinner with friends and finishing it off with the “broadway show”.

We conveniently had dinner at the Hard Rock which was right across from the billboard. Yusel said he was not feeling well and excused himself from the table. He had really gone outside to speak with the videographer and to get a mic inserted under his tie.

As we walked out of dinner towards the center of Times Square. We stood around talking as I nearly froze to death. I complained and asked if we could go somewhere warmer, but Yusel insisted we would be leaving in a couple of minutes.

All of a sudden, random girls started handing roses one by one with a compliment to go with it. It took me by surprise and I did not really know what in the world was going on. Yusel then whispered in my ear and said “babe, look up and start reading”.

I was very confused and did not know what was going to the point where Yusel actually had to read it what was on the billboard for me. Then it really hit me when I saw pictures of us and that is where I completely froze.

The man of my dreams then continued to propose, but of course that was not enough. Our families were standing right by us and I had not even noticed. The moment became even more special as I always dreamed that my family would be around for my proposal.

So much thought and effort was put into the proposal and it was truly one in a million.

Never would I have thought that I would be proposed to in the heart of Times Square surrounded by hundreds of people AND have my family there to be part of it. I felt like the luckiest girl on Earth! I could not be more thankful to my Fiancé and family for all that went into the special moment.
