Abigail and Samuel
How We Met
Samuel and I found love at a very young age, in fact, we like to think we found love in a hopeless place: high school. Samuel’s pursuit of my heart began at the age of fifteen for me and sixteen for him. From the baseball fields, to volleyball courts, to homecoming games, and movie dates, our high school love story was just the beginning. After a year of long distance, we were reunited at Liberty University for three full years of the best college experience growing in our love for the Lord and each other. This February will mark six years of blissful dating and memory making.
How He Asked
January 9th, 2016 continues to feel like a day-dream. After six years of dating, my high-school sweetheart asked me to take our relationship to a life-long level and I just keep looking at my left hand thinking, “This has been worth the wait”. Samuel told me that he wanted to take me out to a nice dinner before I head back to school in Virginia, but unbeknownst to me, he had other plans. We headed out to the car when he pulled out an umbrella and began to lead me down to the lake, which is located in my neighborhood. Over the years, Samuel and I have spent much of our time down by this lake. On the way there I kept squeezing his arm, realizing what was about to happen and he just kept smiling at me with the most endearing excitement in his eyes and raindrops in his hair. When we arrived at the lake, all I could see were strings of market lights, a fire pit, and my beloved record player that he gifted to me last Christmas. He sat me down, gave me a blanket, poured me hot-chocolate, and put on a Frank Sinatra record. He told me he wanted to create a space that was filled with all of my favorite things, and he did that and more! That’s one of the many things I admire about my Samuel, he goes out of his way to make me feel incredibly loved and deeply known. As we sat there by the fire, enamored by what was about to happen, Samuel handed me a leather journal and asked me to read the reasons why he is choosing me to be his wife and partner for life. Those pages began to fill with tears and rain as the sky began to give way. Samuel proceeded to get on one knee and ask me to marry him. It was a moment I wish I could encapsulate forever. Covered in tears and rain, we were, and remain to be, incandescently happy. Dear friends of ours came out of hiding to celebrate the good news: two were under a dock in the water, one was behind a boat capturing pictures, and two were behind a tree. Samuel and I walked back in the rain to my house where more friends and family were there to celebrate and pray over us! I, Abigail Graham Goforth, am beyond blessed to call Robert Samuel Dye my beloved finance, future husband, and forever teammate.
