Abigail and Brady
How We Met
It all began when I met Abigail at one of my buddy’s mission farewells in Rexburg. I had just come home early from my mission to get surgery on my elbow; and ironically, at the time, she had just gotten surgery on her collarbone. We were both crippled! Our scars from those surgeries are just one more thing we share in common. I ended up going back on my mission and Abigail continued going through high school… we kind of went our separate ways for the next 2 years.
When I got home, Abigail was spending time with some people within my close friend group. We didn’t really hang out too much, but both remembered each other from our crippled days! However, at one point a group of us decided to head down to a Utah State football game– Abby and I carpooled together with a few other folks.
We listened to her music playlist the whole ride down! During that trip we both realized we were interested in each other. At some point down the trail, I asked her if she’d be willing to send me over some of her music, and if I could get her number. Although I liked her music, that of course wasn’t my main intention. I guess you could say it was a good excuse to stay in touch.
The following months we talked here and there and exchanged music. Nothing really came from it. Eventually we decided it was high time we hang out, this was around February. We hung out as friends for the next 6 months, not really trying to determine a relationship or look into things too much.
Over time we created a good friendship and spent almost every day together– going to Walmart, getting snow-cones and Taco Time, or spending time at the lake. It eventually got to a point where we both wondered what we had just developed. A great friendship, yes; but we both figured there was more to it.
We started talking and realized that we didn’t want to spend our time with anyone else– we realized that we actually wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. This was crazy for both of us, considering we both never expected to get married at the age of 22 and 19. With that being said, when it’s right, it’s right! And because of this choice, our story continues!
How He Asked
One of Abigail’s favorite places is Jackson Hole, WY. More particularly, Jenny Lake. She finds any excuse she can to spend a whole day up there, or just an evening. She takes anything she can get. One of her favorite pit-stops on the way is Teton Thai in Driggs, ID.
Countless times while we were hanging out she would rant and rave about their Pineapple Fried Rice and Mango Curry. When it came time for me to plan how I was going to ask Abigail to marry me, I knew exactly where I wanted to go and what we’d be eating.
On August 20th, I went and scouted out Jenny Lake and figured out a place to set up the dinner, and planned the timing of the hike we would go on just before. It was perfect. I eventually recruited my family to help set everything up while we were on the hike that following weekend. For dinner we had her favorite meal from Teton Thai, and some old school cokes. And to top it all off, my sister-in-law agreed to capture it all!
Abigail Robison is my best friend. Choosing to marry her has been the best decision I have made thus far. I always heard people say that they got to marry their “best friend”, but I figured that was a little far-fetched, a little too good to be true. Now I know, though, that what they were saying is true.
It seems that happy endings are more likely when there is a happy beginning, which is true for us. We’re grateful to be off on the right foot.
