Abigael and Connor
How We Met
Connor and I actually met on Tinder, and it’s a pretty funny story. We matched for the first time in the fall of 2016. At the time I wasn’t interested in dating at all, let alone online dating. I only downloaded the app because a friend of mine said I should but I hardly ever paid attention to it. When Connor and I matched we messaged back and forth a few times but it commonly ended with me not responding until hours or days later..oops! He thought it was annoying that I never replied haha and decided to “unmatch” me. A few months later in December of 2016, we matched again! I believe his first message to me was something along the lines of “I’m pretty sure we’ve matched before, do you think you’ll actually respond this time?” hahaha. I immediately recognized his profile because I remember thinking the Yellow Lab in his profile picture was so cute (I know, typical girl focusing more on the dog haha). Well I decided since we had matched for second time maybe I needed to actually give this guy a shot. So we started talking, immediately hit it off with sending incredibly long messages back and forth, and we haven’t stopped talking since then!
Call me crazy but I knew Connor was the one on our second date. He took me to one of my favorite places, The Denver Museum of Nature and Science. We had a blast and spent all day there. Afterwards, we went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and ended up spending almost 6 hours sitting a booth talking. I remember my Grandma was in town and she was so worried about me because I had left for this date at 11am and didn’t come back until almost midnight! But my Grandma and I must think alike because when she met Connor a few weeks later she told me she knew he was the one I had been waiting for.
How He Asked
Connor proposed by sneaking it into something we do very often! Our usual date consists of hitting Happy Hour at one of our favorite restaurants, The View House, then coming back to my house and taking my dog for a hike around sunset.
On Thursday, June 7th, 2018, Connor told me he wanted to go on a Happy Hour and Hike date since I wasn’t working that day and he thought he could get off work early. Well, the day started at 10 am when my mom texted me. She was in a Yoga class when she texted me with “Looking at my toes in Yoga, They really need to be done. Going to go to the Nail Salon next door to see if I can get them done now. Do you want to come to get your fingers done?”. Well, I’m in Nursing School and we can’t have our nails painted during the semester so now that it is summer break I will take any opportunity to have my nails painted! I immediately got ready and met my mom at the nail salon.
Afterward I came home, got some things done around the house, and started getting ready for Connor and I’s date. He picked me up around 4 pm and we went to happy hour. I remember thinking he was being awfully quiet which is super unlike him! Looking back on it it makes sense now why he was acting so weird haha.
After Happy Hour we went back to my house and watched Friends, one of my favorite shows, for about an hour. It was around 6:30pm when Connor asked if I wanted to go do our hike. I asked if we could wait a while because we always go at sunset and sunset wasn’t for another few hours. He insisted we go now, which is not like him at all, but I just went with it haha. We got to the top of the trail and were just admiring the view when Connor said “Hey…You know I love you right?” and in that moment I knew exactly what was happening. My back was to him and I immediately started to cry! He kept telling me to turn around and all I remember saying was “No, I can’t” because I knew what was waiting for me when I turned around and the thought of him proposing made me cry even more! hahaha. Eventually I turned around and there he was on one knee asking me to spend forever with him. I of course said Yes!! and couldn’t have been more excited.
After a few minutes passed he said: “Aren’t you going to say Hi to Sarah?”. Sarah has been my best friend since we were 12 and was hiding in the bushes taking photos of the whole thing!! I immediately freaked out that she was there and started crying even more haha. We took a few photos before Connor said: “Okay let’s go because there’s another surprise waiting for you”!!!!! What?! More surprises?!?!
We walked down the trail, back to my house, and all of our closest friends and family were waiting to celebrate with us!! I had randomly mentioned once to Connor that I would love to have a party right after we got engaged but I never thought he remembered that! It was so exciting to get to share the exciting news with some of our favorite people. Connor’s family lives in California so sadly they couldn’t be there but they were in on the whole plan and were celebrating from afar.
June 7th, 2018 was easily one of the happiest days of my life. I have never been surrounded by so much love, joy, and excitement like I was that night. I can’t wait to marry the love of my life!!!!
