Abhygail and Kevin
How We Met
Kevin and I actually have a long history and although we were both too young to vividly remember it’s always such a nice thing to share. We actually grew up in the same neighborhood but even though Kevin was down the street from me, we never really talked. I ended up moving away to a different city and Kevin went off to college. It wasn’t until I was 18 (March 2012) that we crossed paths again at a mutual family friend’s baby shower. Kevin came up to me that day and re-introduced himself to me. We ended up talking so much we decided to go the movies that same day.
While Kevin was in college we decided to get to know each other through ongoing dates and late night conversations. We became much closer and got to know each other very well but it wasn’t until January 2013 when we started dating exclusively. It was that year that we began doing many “first-time” adventures together. Since then, we’ve been able to explore many different cities and countries together through vacations and random adventures.
How He Asked
About a month ago, I got a text from my mom telling me that we were taking “family pictures” sometime in July. She began by telling me that these pictures were going to be fancy and that the photographer had picked a place in Downtown Los Angeles. She insisted on me buying the perfect outfit. At this point I didn’t think much of it because it had been a long time since we had taken family pictures.
I woke up that morning on a Saturday July 23rd not knowing what lied ahead. We all got ready and as a family we headed out to DTLA. When we arrived at our destination my mom got a call saying that we were going to be taking pictures on a rooftop. Once inside the building we went inside the elevator and that’s when my dad suddenly blindfolded me.
After climbing 3 flights of stairs, BLINDFOLDED, a mysterious hand guided me and at that moment I knew it was Kevin. He led me to the balcony that was romantically decorated with candle lights and in the background a live saxophonist was performing our song “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. It was then, that he began to tell me why we he wants to spend forever with me. It was at that moment, that he got down on one knee and asked me the question I’ve been dreaming to hear since we first met “Abhygail Nikol, will you marry me?”
At that moment I heard cheers and excitement from down below, I looked over and I saw 40 of our closest family and friends all there to celebrate our engagement. Kevin prepared a night filled with food, games, dancing, beautiful lights and decorations as well as lots of laughter. I will never forget that night, I couldn’t be happier to spend forever with my now Fiancé.
