How we met: Matt and I were introduced through a mutual friend and co-worker. It was only a friendship at first, as I was dating someone else at the time. We both had this oddly strong attraction to each other from the get go, and had to get to know each other better. Shortly after ending my previous relationship, we began to date, and have been inseparable ever since.
How he asked: It started with what I thought was the best Christmas present ever… a surprise trip to my favorite place over New Year’s – New York City! Overjoyed with his generosity, the thought of a proposal didn’t even cross my mind.
We arrived in New York bright and early on December 31st, and followed Matt’s schedule for the day – including shopping, tourist attractions, and a romantic dinner. The next day, we took our time getting started, but ensured to visit some of the places I wanted to see. Matt was very adamant that we needed to be at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park for 2pm. Just after arriving to the fountain, we began walking towards Bow Bridge.
Matt suggested we take a seat on a wooden bench just off the main path. After repeatedly telling me how happy I make him, how beautiful I am, and how much he loves me, my wheels started to spin. Matt said he had one final gift for me, as he reached into his breast pocket, he took my hand and got down on one knee. He asked if I would marry him. Bursting with happiness, I said yes!
Just when I thought things couldn’t get better, Matt said “Sam, meet Kamila”… the photographer he hired to capture our entire proposal. At this point, I started to cry even more as I realized that we could relive and share this moment with photographs.
The surprises weren’t over. Matt had arranged for Kamila to jump into a 2 hour engagement photo shoot with us in the city. We captured the beginning of our new adventure in Central Park, Grand Central Station, Times Square, and other locations in between. We ended our unforgettable day with a lovely dinner and just enjoying each others company.
This was truly the most magical day the both of us have ever experienced. I couldn’t have asked for a more memorable experience saying “YES” to spending the rest of my life with my best friend.
