How We Met: Loreen and I grew up less than 5 miles apart from one another and we both graduated from the same high school in 2003, however it wasn’t until after college that we were introduced through a mutual friend. Loreen was living in New York City at the time and I was living in Philadelphia. For two years we were friends and saw each other whenever our group of friends would get together in NYC or Philly. When Loreen moved back to Philadelphia we began dating, and became “official” on June 8, 2011.
How He Asked: I wanted to give Loreen the proposal of her dreams. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a special place for her so proposing at the top of “The Rocky Steps”, with a view of the Philly skyline in the background seemed perfect. On Friday April 19, Loreen and I went to the museum and she was expecting to meet my mom for “Art After 5”, a weekly event in which you can walk through the art galleries while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. We walked to the top of the steps, I dropped down on one knee and proposed. Loreen was so shocked and I don’t even think she said yes right then. She was speechless and just stuck out her shaking hand. I had contacted Mary and Roy previously about photographing the event and they were able to perfectly capture the proposal.
After taking our engagement photos, we went to Loreen’s favorite restaurant in the city, Talula’s Garden. I had contacted them several weeks prior and upon arrival we were seated at one of their best tables and served 2 glasses of champagne. After a wonderful dinner, I had one more surprise waiting for her. Loreen thought that we would just be meeting our parents for a drink to celebrate at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia, however when I brought her inside there were 60 of our closest friends and family there. For the second time that evening, Loreen was completely surprised and whispered to me “everyone’s here.” She began to cry a little, and then gave her mom a big hug. We spent the rest of the night celebrating with all of our friends and family. The night was truly magical for both of us, and turned out to be an amazing way to begin our engagement.
