How We Met: “Potatoes is my favorite food group.” I remember distinctly the first words she said to me. It was junior year of high school, and her school had just closed. After only a couple months of consideration Elizabeth decided to come to Silverdale Baptist Academy. It was my second year at the school, and I had already established a friend group, but I will never forget that cute, blue-eyed, blonde-haired girl who sat across from me at lunch that day. We talked a lot through that year. From the first day I met her, I thought she was adorable and wished in the back of my mind that we could be together, but was afraid of ruining what had become a very close friendship. Finally, senior year after both having ended bad relationships, I asked her to prom and soon after we started dating. I am so grateful to be with my best friend and the love of my life. She will always be that cute, blue-eyed, blonde-haired girl to me.
How He Asked: From the moment Nathan and I met we have always had a special connection. We have both grown up in Chattanooga, TN a town full of Civil War history in and around it. We have both always enjoyed that aspect of our towns history and that similar interest help to start what become a very close friendship. Before we ever even started dating we would attend local events to remember various anniversaries of Civil War battles together. At the end of our senior year of high school, on a school trip with our Youth in Government club to Charleston, SC for the 150th anniversary of Fort Sumter, Nathan and I started dating. All of that to say, Civil War history has always been a big part of our relationship. Nathan and I have been a couple for about 2 and a half years now. This past Labor day weekend, our families had planned a trip to Point Park, a national military park on Lookout Mountain, TN the site of The Battle of Chattanooga, for what I believed was going to be a picnic. Well, we did have a picnic but that is not all that happened. Before we ate, we started walking around the park, and then Nathan lead me off away from our families and said “Come over here with me, I have something for you.” I figured out something was going on. He got down on one knee, right there in front of everyone, on a Civil War battle field on top of a mountain and asked me to marry him!
Oh yeah, and he had a secret photographer there to capture the entire thing! It was absolutely perfect, and it was 100% us.

On August 3rd, 2013 Kody and I drove up to the Park City Arts Festival where we met his family for a fun-filled weekend. His mom called us on the way up there and told us that she had bought tickets for all of us to ride …
